Shocks on with coilovers, problem after lowing car off jacks.. Doesn't look right (see my last post way below)


Last Question [SOLVED]:

On the 3rd pic. again, there's a small part of metal that points in a triangle downward.. (parallel with those two welded on mount/nuts) when I re-installed the pieces correctly and slide the bottom shock on the damper fork, it stopped (obviously) where the triangle piece points downwards was.

SO, even though there is a damper pinch fork bolt in place, why is that piece there, wouldn't it hurt more than anything (since it might smash down into the damper fork)?

Does anybody know what the two weird angled areas (welded on nut/mount) to bolt a screw/bolt are for (see PICTURE 3, bottom right)?


#1 Problem Solved
So I received my skunk2 sport shocks last week, and finally had time to get to installing them this weekend. I took off the skunk2 adjustables from the oem/stock shock and was going to put on the new skunk2 sports.. However, there are 2 rubber pieces and one fat washer for each shock, and I have no clue where they belong... Check out the pix below and maybe you can help??

That fat washer piece doesn't fit below where the bump-stop piece goes.. So no room to put those pieces, right?


Def. the wrong way, but not sure how to install it..

um, the red things replace the black things that look EXACTLY like them that are on your top hats i think they're called.

just use a screw driver and nudge em out.

Yes, they're a urethane replacement for your tophat bushings. Knock them out with a screwdriver and a mallet, and remove the metal collar in between. Put it back together with the red bushings.

 

See first post again (new question), original problem solved, but thanks for the answer again; as well as clarification for the washer question

 

Those are to bolt the brake line if you have a 92-95 Civic or a 94-01 Integra. Don't worry about them for a 6th gen.

Yes.... why wouldn't he be? It's just a metal collar. You slide the old hard rubber bushings off and put the urethane on.

 

See above post again. Sorry, last question.

Plus that metal collar doesn't receive much, if any wear; so using it again is def. the right choice. Plus they don't give you a new one of those anyways.

On your shock fork, there should be a split or indentation where the bolt brings the two edges of the collar together. That little point on the shock collar goes into that split.

If you don't set it up like that, your shock will sit too high.

 

Oh, ok. I think I turned the shock around 180 degrees when i reinstalled, probably my mistake there.)

 

Oh, by the way, you see those 4 beveled washers you have? The ones that seem to have sort of a dome on them?

Those go on the shock piston with the dome facing up, to give the bumpstop something to rest on. They will only go down to where the shock piston gets larger, so don't try and force it.

yes, and they also give the top hat something to tighten down against.

Thanks, I actually stayed up real late and finished it all, and did that too ^^ with the washers.. However, I lowered my car off the jacks and it looks like this on all 4 shocks!:

Did you forget the rubber bumpstops?

Also, you rebuilt the tophat the wrong way. The domed side is supposed to face up on the top side, and down on the bottom, so when together, it looks almost spherical (thus, why it's called a spherical bushing). They should never separate with that collar in.

 

I put in the rubber bump-stops.. I can see how the top-hat is constructed incorrectly, but when I change that, it would still be poking thru, right? I wasn't sure what to do with the 4 metal washers (the fat ones) that I got, so I replaced the old piece that goes after the two poly. urethane bushing with that.. Was I supposed to put one of those washers after the bump-stop or ? That's what I'm starting to think I need to do.

Also, one of the collars for the rear is MIA.. When I popped off the bushings from the top hat, I didn't see one. Searched everywhere, so I'm fairly sure it wasn't there to begin with.. Do I need one of those really bad, or can it wait a few days while I drive the car around (go to school & work, then get the part and install, )
