Default ?????????Your opinion on engine rebuild?????????

i have a 94 ls with 130k miles on it, i want to rebuild it to be fast. i want it to be all motor im not into turbo and super and nos. etc. just some raw power. it is my daily driver so take that into consideration. i dont want to do an engine swap or ls/vtec. i just wanted to know what u guys would rebuild it with, what kind of cams, pistons, valves etc. and aprox. how much it would cost with install. ( i dont think i can handle it by myslef) also what kind of numbers do u think i will be running. im lookin for somethin not to expensive im not the wealthiest of people at the moment but im just tryin to get an idea for a rebuild. thanks alot

goto an impound lot and look for a GSR with usable parts, maybe you could find some s2k parts.

if you want to have a fast all motor setup adding the Vtec head would be a good idea, some b16 pisonts are a good way to raise the compression and not that expensive and some ITR or CTR cams will yield nice power. or if you want to be more aggressive get some forged internals do 12:1 compresion and get some stage 2 or 3 cams and the apprepriate valvetrain.

i know it wasn't one of your suggestions, but if you're going to spend a lot of money rebuilding, why not just swap it out for a vtec motor--it's got more potential. selling your ls motor will offset cost a little. just my opinion.

your comments about using S2K parts and referring to the GSR as a wannabe sports car is what got me perturbed. dont try to act all innocent now.

What are you doing on the Teg forums? All you do is talk **** about the cars that these ppl take pride in like you're some sort of all knowing car enthusiast. I knew I recognized your name and your stupid comments. You don't even own a Teg, I don't even think you own a car?!

Grow up man. Nobody wants to hear about how you "used to want a teg", or how you're smarter than all the teg ricers now, or how you're gonna get a car with a rotary engine and show all us punk ricers what is up

Man, get a life.

Justin

Anyway........... I agree you can probably just get a B16 or a B18C , Engine&head assembly, not worry about building specs, save lots of time and headaches, slap it in, and tune it really nice, maybe add a set of cams later on.

I think you have a great Idea but, just need some input for you to pusue the project.
I, my self is also going through the stage of rebuild. My 94GSR has over 100,000miles and I'm afraid to go street racing. I know my teg very well and I know its not gonna let me down. But If you abuse it, it will not last.
My suggestion to you is, have it built right the first time. Dont look for cheap way out. Get the best parts that you can get and have it built right. sure it will be costly(it doesn't have to be expensive to be the best parts) but, I know you'll feel better after you take your ride out the first time and see the whole new engine scream! It's great idea to keap the engine as is. dont have to go to GSR head to to beat a GSR. I should know. Not only that, you'll have a strong engine that can easily bolt on turbo's. And the LS is great for that. It is a big project! so take your time and do some research.

Going with a gsr motor is a cool idea, but you can build up your ls block for the same aount of money. Going with a B18c1 will require you to run a whole new wire harness and that takes money and experience. I think you should just go with a B20 or a B20Z. If you get a b20 block you could probably use your existing wire harness and just swap the ecu.

well i went throught the rebuilding process. my engine had 187k on it before i rebuilt it. well if you tell me how much you are thinking or can spend then i'll give you some suggestions. but this is what i did, i got my head ported and polished, comp valve job, new valve stem seals, resurfaced or milled up to .040, hot tanked and cleaned, Titanium retainers, comp valve springs, new valve stem seals, polished chambers, tapered intake valve guides, over size stainless steel intake and exhaust valves...........it cost me $1400 then i got my block done...JE pistons ( 84mm ), pins and rings, ESP rods, micropolished cranks, balanced and blueprinted, New rod and main bearings, new thrust washers, new ductile iron sleeves, GEN2 block treatment, hot tanked , CNC head gasket, cleaned and assembled and the displacement is now 1976cc before it was 1835cc...$3000. its up to you on what you really want.

here how about this. B20 bottom end ( 900) rebuild the head( not that much at all), crower 404's ( 300$ used or new got my crower 403's for 250$), crower valve springsW/ titanium retaienrs - 300$( or cheaper), cam gears- 150$, FPR ( 40-50$) a lil tuning ( 150) tehrs about .. 1600$ right there, and add a GSR tranny for another 600$ and you got a 2200 LS all motor daily drivable reliable "Torquey" set up.

With all the money you are going to spend sell the engine and get a GSR engine
