Not 100% true. In Japan, the B20B was stamped as a B20B while the B20Z type counterpart was also stamped B20B.

About the same, **** for cylinder wall castings, weak rods, and a valvetrain that hates to rev.
Once you've sleeved, built, added a vtec head, and dumped money into either motor the difference will be miniscule.

yo're switching valve trains so it doesnt matter
the b20 vtecs are actually pretty quick, faster than a stock b20 and faster than that stock car you have

Actually it does matter.
I don't know much about the B20 valve trains but you're switching them out so it doesn't matter - yeah - peachy.
Though the other part is that the B20 rods suck ***** and the B20's hate to be revved (it's a truck engine...not a ricer civic engine). Think of the B20 as the EXACT opposite of the B16 - a motor that NEEDS to be running high ends to make power. B20's are meant for auto trans's and are make all their power low.
So idiots take the motors out, put them in their civics w/ a GSR trans, slap a B16 head on it, take it up to 8000 RPM ("because the valvetrain can handle it") and wonder why they have the pleasant decorations of piston rods sticking out of the side of the block.

The simple problem is pple think now that they got VTEC it like - shields the block or something, and then they take it to whatever the B16 redline is and BOOM...and I don't feel bad.
