Default civic vx

ok... my civic vx will be driving perfectly normal then all of a sudden the whole car shakes violently and no matter what kind of throttle i give her, it keeps going and doesn't speed up... the car slows down to almost a stop then it will kick back to normal. i turned it off anf back on and diconnected the battery and turned it back on... same thing all over again bucking bronco. i turned it off again and turned it back on and it drove normal for two days no problem. then all of a sudden its doing it again. i can't drive anywhere... anyone have any ideas?

You may have an ignition system problem. When was the last time you replaced the wires, cap, rotor, spark plugs? Check timing? CEL? Also, may be unrelated, but is your cat still intact and not melted? With heavy misfires like that, that will surely ruin a cat in no time.

When was the last time it ran correctly without that problem, or did it occur after a service? Oil change service? The service doesnt have to be related to your problem, because its stuff like that that will normally create a problems.

Check the diagnostic codes even if it doesn't appear to be throwing a CEL.

If you drive around for a long time with worn maintenance ignition components, you tend to burn out the coil and/or ignitor. So be sure to test them with a multimeter.

Man I want a stock VX so bad... do you live near so cal? I'm going to buy one in perfect condition and swap everything over from my DX (the VX has front and rear diffusers, a light weight motor mount and alternator mount, a tach, VTEC wiring, no rear wiper etc).

Could be a number of things. 1st confirm that your ignition system is working properly.

I had similar issues when my catalytic converter clogged. Loosen the nuts on the manifold enough to create a significant leak and see if the problem persists.

He's far from so cal, upstate NY. Apparently he doesn't check the forums very often. I don't know if he's getting any CEL's, but I don't think so. I'll ask today, and we'll test all the ignition components ASAP. We just thought it was kinda weird that something so crazy was happening intermittently. And I guess we'll check out the converter too. I'll tell him to get his *** on here and read your replies himself, see what he thinks.
