XTD STAGE 3 clutch sucks!!
I told them my stage 3 wasn't holding the torque on my 225-250ish horsepower setup and they told me I should have gotten a stage 4 since it has the heavy duty pressure plate. This sucks because they claim the stage3 can hold 320hp, and I thought the clutch would be plenty -and I told them this. They want me to pay more money to get another pressure plate instead of trading mine in which is crap.
The pressure plate in the stage 3 kit seems to be stock with red paint...next clutch will be a competition clutch for sure, I just had this XTD laying around so I put it in. Until I get my comp clutch I'm trying to get them to send me the stage 4 heavy duty pressure plate, we will see how it goes.

I haven't had any problems with mine. I actually love it! I've had it for probably the last 6k miles or so. I'm putting my nitrous kit on this weekend, so i'll let you know if I have any problems with it holding over the 200+ hp
yea thats the same thing they told me.. i should have got a stage 4 pressure plate.. but the stage 3 says it would handle.. so im trying ask to just pay the difference between the two since it comes with 12 month warranty.
I have run these clutches in my builds and in friends builds with no problems. I ran the last two with a boosted B16 with a drag kit, no issues, and also on my boosted single cam with no issues. Don't know what the problems you are having are from. Remember, clutches are rated in torque, not HP. Forget the claims about "This clutch can hold 300hp"... pay close attention to the torque ratings. If you have a serious hp setup, perhaps they are right and you made the improper selection.
i know the torque matters, but my setup is pushing no more than 200 if even at that right now. and before 12 months, it shouldnt be slipping so baddly. I was just curious to see if anyone ever had problems before and recieved a replacement or exchange, cause im trying right now and its taking forever just to get replies from them.

I ran 8-10psi on my single cam and also had a zex cam. The car went 14.0 @ 102mph and was driven daily. My friend B16 ran 8psi on a drag kit. I dont' know what he ran in the 1/4 but it was quicker then the SOHC. I would imagine its somewhere around the levels you are making. Never an issue.

The reason i tried the xtd in the first place is because of the good things i have heard about them and was hoping i would get the same results because of my lower levels.. Its good your clutch worked for you.. I which i had the same results it just sucks to know i have to change the clutch again when i have done it so many times before
Yes, torque is all that matters and I'm still producing less that what they claim it can hold, and so are many of the others that have had problems. But there are also many that have great luck with them. Guess you get either a good one or a bad one
Another thing is that it says the stage 3 pressure plate is made in Japan (just a stock OE or OE replacement pressure plate) + modified in the USA. I think what they do to modify them henders the reliability of it.
Well, I'm ripping mine out today and when the pressure plate gets here Monday I putting an ACT 6-puck w/ the ACT HD pressure plate in it because I know it will hold

Have fun with the ACT. It will "hold" alright, but its going to destroy the pressure plate and the flywheel. Don't believe me? Just watch what happens with time. The pick material used by ACT is FAR to aggressive.
Did you happen to have the flywheel resurfaced like you should when you installed the XTD? Did you do any kind of break in method on the clutch? Who installed it?

This car is made to race, so I just need something that will get me down the track without slipping on me so I can see what she will do. I've got spare flywheels, axels, trannys, blocks and heads etc
Well the flywheel has replaceable friction surfaces so thats ok. I know people who use the same setup and its not that bad, it won't stay in there too long anyways.
And the flywheel was brand new. Break in was per instructions given, even thou you dont really have to break in a puck clutch. I installed it per honda specs, I've done dozens of clutches on different cars

Any luck? Haven't heard back from them - go figure. When I took it out I found out that the stupid clutch destroyed my flywheel - the ring gear on my fidanza flywheel came loose - so my lightweight flywheel is trash now, not repairable.
Put a stock flywheel and the ACT setup (HD PP, 6puck unsprung in) and its working GREAT, no slipping just pure grip and easy to drive.
