My 92 Accord LX Oil Problem
Hello, first post. My car is a `92 Accord LX, with 253K miles and going.
I've been both leaking and burning oil.
The leak: could be the drain bolt, could be the oil pan, could be who knows what. I go through about a quart of oil every two thousand miles, give or take. I've cleaned off my engine to try to pinpoint the source of the leak. The results of that have been that it's probably just the drain bolt on the pan, but i have a feeling it's just collecting there. if it's coming from anywhere, it's coming from the right side of the engine (if you were looking at it from the front of the car), the timing belt area. I hope it's not the rear engine seal!!
The oil burn: My catalytic converter smokes and shows oil stains (smokes from the oil) and the rear bumber & trunk of my car gather little speckles of something that can only be coming from the tailpipe. however, my exhaust does not smoke so i'm wondering if those symptoms are really just by products of the oil leak, flying back while the car is going down the highway.
Has anyone had any experience with these issues on their car or know what might be going on here? any advice would be helpful before I go tearing into my engine (and bank account). thanks!

Best bet to swap with another F22A.
Your leak will start with a oil pan gasket, then to the rear main seal. Most likely both for yours. Honda will charge shy of $900 to fix just those two items.
The burning oil could be what just leaking is dripping on your a-pipe.

Have you cleaned off the underside of the engine and looked for the leak? It should be pretty easy to tell if it is the pan, there won't be much oil above the pan to block interface. Replacing the pan gasket is relatively easy. If it is just the drain plug, get a new aluminum washer (or put a little rtv on the washer). IF you recently changed your oil, you can change the plug/washer without draining the oil by sticking a vacuum cleaner hose in the valve cover hole, it pulls air in through the drain hole and prevents the oil from draining while you pull the plug, put a new washer on, and reinstall it.
Its all DIY man....Grab a Chiltons Accord manual and a 12pack....replace your main, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, water pump & Gasket....ect. Cheaper and alot less wrenching you have to do....that motor has much more life in it....(Assuming it's a daily driver/ and you dont pound on it)
well, i think replacing the engine is a bit drastic. yes, to answer someone's question, i stated before that i've cleaned the engine. I actually inspected it closer today, and found that i have two leaks: distributer gasket, and the other may be the head gasket (which i had replaced around 175K with the timing belt.) or the valve cover gasket (which i replaced a few months ago, but i may have pinched it i suppose). it seems to be the head gasket, but i'll look again to make absolutely sure.
i think i'll just rebuild it.
