Default ****SOME TURBO QUESTIONS, d-series motors********

alright,i am currently selling/trading my 96 EK hatch (obd2, dont want to deal with that for future plans to go turbo) so i plan to get something obd1. 1992-1995 civic ex or si is what i want. so i have a few questions about my turbo that i have.its a t3.

dont know much about it , traded a d16z6 engine wiring harness for it.

1. would it be a good turbo for a d16z6
2. wut would be the spool time for max boost at like 12psi
3. wut would be the boost threshold(start boosting/spooling)
4. this turbo has the tiniest bit of shaft play on the exhaust side, if i was going to rebuild the turbo how much would it cost and could i do it myself?
5. should i run a piggy back ecu(apex-i neo) or a chipped ecu (crome), i am kinda in the dark on how tuning works. i do know that u are basically trying to get the most balanced air/fuel ratio. in between rich and lean, iknow lean causes detonation and rich causes higher temps, wasting gas, and makes ur car run kinda shitty. im basically asking if i could tune with crome myself on a street tune or should i just go with a piggyback( i dont want to have to go to a dyno, prefer doing it myself on a street tune). NO FMU.

thank you for help in advance.

You'll get full boost pretty quick (like 3500rpm)

Also to make that work right on a regular t3 flanged manifold you will need one of these <A HREF="http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ATP-FLS-051&Category_Code=FLG
" TARGET="_blank">http://www.atpturbo.com/Mercha...FLG
</A>

That's a volvo T3. Should work great.

That turbine housing is a pain in the *** though. You have to either swap out the housing for a standard T3, grind it down flat, or weld it in and then surface it.

I actually am using a volvo T3 in my car, but I had it rebuilt and I swapped the turbin housing out for a standard .48 ar T3.

I would recommend you get it rebuilt and have the rebuilder swap out the turbine housing. That's what I did anyways, and it works great.

also, the kid took off the internal gate essembly and told me to weld something shut so i could make it external gate. does anyone know a link that goes over a complete turbo project from start to finish. from the things purchased to installed and then tuned with a stand-alone or piggyback. and they did it all themselves (no dyno,no tuner.)

im thinking of just buying a new turbo, i dont want to rebuild the turbo.

i've read a couple of threads on tuning but they just go over bits and pieces.

i need every little detail for a noob. im getting mixed up.so if some1 knows of a write up that is truly helpful, please let me know
