Default 4speed to 5speed DX worth it?

I can pick up a 5 speed DX transmission fairly cheap.

Would it be worth installing on my d15b2? Or would it be more of a hasstle than anything?

I know it isn't as great for performance compared to the SI, but it has got to be better than my 4 speed right? The 5 speed would also be better for gas mileage right?

Thanks in advance everyone!

Are there any reasons why I should not swap?

I will never be racing, so being slow off the line does not matter to me. I just hate being in 4th gear going down the highway, it feels like it wants to go into 5th.

If someone could, could you please list some advantages of the DX?

Thanks again.

Well, the 4spd has longer gears then the 5 on the dx, granted you probbly will still pull a touch lower rpm free way your milage will be about the same.

Now, if you like your ratios just want a 5th. the 4spd is a HF tranny with no 5th.

So install an HF tranny.

Also, there are a bunch of gearing calcs out there for D series you can use one and see how the DX and STD compare and weather its worth it for you.

I myself don't want to spoon feed you, I want to give you your info and let you get that a-ha moment on your own

After using the calc. I don't think it would be worth it. Thank you for teaching a man to fish Ace.

either or multi point or dual point the 5sp has shorter gears than the 4sp. If you do decide to convert, you need 5sp hubs, and axles and of course the tranny. The reason why the 4sp hubs and axles wont work is because they're too small. Right now im rockin a 4sp multi point its fun but you'll feel the different with the 5sp. GL
