Default ACT clutch = junk

Their clutch has let me down. Customer service has let me down. They acknowledge that the clutch looks great from the pictures( ) and admit that the springs should not rattle like mine do. They however will not do anything to help remedy my immediate problem. I am now forced to purchase another clutch plate to hold me over until it's time for my next clutch install which will NOT be ACT. I need a clutch plate NOW and don't have the time to wait for them to recieve it and determine that they aren't going to do anything about it anyway(which is pretty much the impression they gave).

The motor is all stock and is not making anymore power than any other B18c on here.

Car has extremely limited miles. Autox'd twice and otherwise driven 5 miles to and from work. Clutch springs should NOT just shake them self loose like that.

Exedy will now receive any of my funds in the future.

I read similar reviews in the archives AFTER I installed it, and now you can add this thread to that list.

What setup did you have?

I have ACT HD PP/Unsprung 6-puck, and I haven't had a hickup.

I should have mentioned that part. I had the HDSS.

BlueR came through with the quickness with a deal on an Exedy kit that will be here on Monday.

I never liked my Exedy. I enjoy my ACT which is much like GO FIGHT KILL's. Could you have just bought another ACT clutch and have them review it. More than likely from what it sounds like, they will reimburse you? No?

My Exedy 3puck lightweight disc has held up for over 15k miles on my built 2.0L...many many clutch dumps and a few drag passes.

I've had my ACT for over 80k miles - no problems whatsoever

Odd though because I remember them having great customer service...

No reimbursement. All I was asking for was a replacement clutch disc. I was willing to pay shipping from them. I believe the disc itself costs roughly $100 on most sites ($170 on theirs). It could have been a relatively simple process. I NEED this clutch now. I don't have the time to play the waiting games while they determine whether or not they would replace it. And they implied it HAD to be my fault due to heavy clutch use and dropping the clutch too many times (not true at all!).

The clutch did exceed the 90 day warranty BUT c'mon. Work with me here. The clutch has made noise since day one, but I never suspected the clutch. I'm an angry customer that you will lose if you don't help me. Ship me my new clutch plate and I pay shipping. Then I return the old one for them to examine and determine how it could have failed so quickly.

I could have been a repeat customer for the rest of my life. Die hard ACT fan til the day I die. That's many many many purchases. Guess they didn't want anymore of my tiny little bit of money.

Pics of the plate just for reference. Looks perfect except all the springs are loose, some more than others. Always installed properly and driven fairly conservatively.

Flywheel pic just because.

Damn, that sucks... I had an ACT sprung 6-puck in my Civic Type-R ('92 with a full interior/suspension/powertrain conversion), it did the same thing with the springs. But the previous owner beat the hell out the clutch, so I didn't complain.

Clutches are annoying sometimes.

If it's so orgasmic then how can it be bad?

Yea, that's the one I'm getting. Archives seems to mixed reviews, although I found a thread with you recommending it at one time

I understand clutches are wear items and nothing is 100% sure to not fail, but hopefully if any problems arise they can be worked out with Exedy.

I run a ACT 6 puck sprung its alright alot of freakin clutch chatter though, and ran the exedy stage 1 clutch for a long time and loved it. I guess its all in what you get sometimes, sometimes you get a crummy one.

Yeah, it definately took me a while to get used to the unsprung 6-puck around town... Definately a lot of chattering for the first few days, I swear the engine was about to shake from the mounts one time, scared the **** out of me.

I've got it down to a science now, nice and smooth.

^ I've been thinking about going with a stock R disc with my ACT HD PP... I've never driven a good condition R clutch, I'm assuming they are pretty grabby?

its all in how you drive, most of time i ride the clutch, and if i dump it in 1st i'll just spin through entire gear in second.. again, its all in how you drive. i've had unsprung clutch in between, it would always grab but with a lots of bang, you just feel your drivetrain taking a hit with every shift harder than it would with springs. so i went with stock and lasted all of my boosted miles plus some.

I decided against ACT a while back after a certain thread in the Prelude forum. A guy's fresh build was junked after his act 6 puck setup was applying too much pressure on the crank. The result was a junked block and crank after oil starvation at that end.

Yeah, I don't even beat on my car anymore, everytime I shift hard, it makes me cringe... I think I'm going back with stock R disc. Pretty cheap brand new... Sucks, another $150 down the drain in labor.

Working so much sacrafices time. But the trade off is, at least I have money to spend on labor.
