You could always do what we did. Get your biggest friend to press down on the top of the spring while you loosen it. Be advised this is dangerous. Those springs come off with some force. I've also seen people stand on the shock and just shoot them out into the street.

The air compressor bit is the safest. A shop shouldn't charge you much to do it.

What happens is the suspension doesn't come down low enough to get the strut out because the spring becomes fully extended and takes up all the slack. The result can be a bunch of disassembled parts that are stuck in the wheel well. At least this is the case with stock springs.

Chances are that since you already have lowering springs, there isn't much preload on them anyways. I personally would try bracing the top hat on the ground with two tires, and take the nut off with a ratchet. If there is any preload, it will spit the shock across the room, but won't hurt anything. If you do this, be VERY careful and keep your hands away from all the parts as springs store a LOT of energy...

you only need a spring compressor for the FRONT STOCK springs. you wont need a spring compressor in the rear.

this only works when you deal with aftermarket springs, especially adjustable race springs. the springs on a stock front spring are so preloaded you wont be able to take the shock fork out safely even if the spring is free(er). and you wont need a spring compressor anyway.

You can try to pull the whole assembly out and carefully, have someone press down on the top hat as heavily as possible, without the bottom slipping on the ground. If it doesnt compress enough to show any thread than dont undo the top bolt. You can "shoot" it off if you know what you are doing, otherwise, you really can hurt yourself or someone else. Not recommended.

i just did it, the eibach pros only drop it about an inch or so, im switching to lower springs or coilovers.

i put the bottom against the cement wall laid a tire over top and a tired infront of the tophat, then unscrewed it. it wasnt that pressurized so the next one i just poped it off it barley did anything. thanks for the help
