Default Is the Ipod Nano considered a "docking ipod"?

Want to buy an new alpine headunit along with an older nano (2nd 3rd or 4th gen). The control interface option available from alpine says it will hook up to any "docking ipod". I've never owned an ipod so i'm not sure on what that means. Also can buying a used ipod not work on a computer other than the one it was originally hooked up to and had downloaded from?

A docking iPod means, it can be connected from the bottom using an Apple iPod connector wire.

ie - a non-docking iPod is the iPod Shuffle.

And yes, you can buy a used ipod and have it work on your computer. You will be required to download iTunes and all the songs on the iPod will be deleted and replaced with your music.
