Default Ipod integration

I have a Alpine headunit with ipod integration. I hooked it up to my Ipod nano (1st gen) a few years ago, and the nano finally died on me(put it through the washer/dryer accidently 3 years back). Well going without my ipod for a week I needed something to listen to, so I burned my mp3 on to a disc. The bass was amazing coming from the disc vs. the ipod, I looked around and it seems that the ipod kills bass.

Does anyone notice this as well? Or is it my 1st gen nano? Did they fixed this problem yet, because I want to get the touch but don't want the crappy sound?

from my friend's experience, his i pod touch doesn't work with his alipne 9886, so i'd think again about getting a touch if you want to use it in your car.
