Default Damn! thought it was the axle...

Went to my friend who is a mechanic today, because I had alot of knocking noises when I turn the steering wheel to the left sharply.

Now its even when im driving straight, humming like NUTS...

So anyways, the boot was ripped, and you can see the inside and it wasnt that greased , so thought it was the axle.. im sure it had to be changed anyways

I take it out, and its stil there.. damn.. we put up the car, the wheel is TIGHT .. no play or movement at all, 9 - 12 position, etc. The front wheel was cupped, so we rotate the wheel, and put the rear one up front, I take it out.. Stil there..

So yeah, we thought it cant be the wheel bearing at all, since its so tight and no play.. but there is alot of humming when we spin it.. so its GOTTA be it..

Gotta go back monday and fix the bearing this blows, driving it right now like this is scary

Just to let you know, I had the EXACT same problem... A VERY loud and annoying humming sound (I created a thread about it a while ago, I'll dig it up for ya') coming from the passenger side wheel.

I thought it was the wheel bearing, but I changed the brake pads just to be sure... It sounds stupid, but this fixed the problem, and it hasn't come back. I don't know how it was causing the humming, but it was.

Try that first.

It's a long read, but it sorts itself out at the end, along with cats.

I second this. I had a wheel bearing go bad (R/FR). You know, the typical humming noise that changes pitch with speed and comes and goes as you sway the load. I replaced it and everything was great for a while. After about six - seven months a grinding noise started. The noise was REAL bad when I turned the car sharp left at low speeds. Long story short, it turned out to be a defective wheel bearing (same one that I had just replaced). Swapped in another new one and now she's smooth as silk again. (Thank god for tech friends that are easily motivated with generous gifts of alcohol )

What side is it on? If its the drivers it could be the intermediate shaft bearing.

Just for fun, I would also check the inner tire walls of whatever side the noise is coming from.

the best way ive found to find bad wheels bearings is to put your hand on the sping and spin the wheel....just feel for a roughness

Citrus, its gonna be the passenger front..

When i flcik it to the left (steering wheel) it gets LOUD..thumping, clicking.. then i slowly progress to the RIGHT it goes away for a second, then it comes back and sounds like **** even driving straight.. if i make right turns, it goes away and just hums.

GO FIGHT KILL: Yeah, you got way different symptons ;P glad to hear you got it fixed

Yes, it is good to have mechanic friends Acura wants $300 for a ******* bearing, i asked the service guy if they are crazy. He said "No..." YEEEEAA

My (from the dealer) wheel bearing was no way near that much! Maybe they were quoting you the rear with the hub too.
