Default Insurance won't cover HIDs...some other ?s about claims, please help

Well, Allstate won't cover my HID's that were on the car since it wasn't a repair or whatever. I don't really feel like fighting with them, but what do you guys think? I never told them about the HIDs so I'm thinking I don't have much of a case on that...

Additionally, for those of you who recieved payments, did insurance try to lowball you? I already got one document from B-Diddy to help me up the value of my car to show ins that it was an ITR and not an LS or something...how'd you guys do it, just show them the going rate of ITRs for sale?

TIA

Do you have reciepts for the HID's? I believe that "if it replaced something that was stock" they'll cover it. And anything that was bolted on as well.

Go out and find as many itr's for sale that you can find...and only submit the high priced ads to the insurance company...be careful that the insurance company does not use the incorrect vehicle, remember that they will make deductions dependent upon the amount that you have on your car, and the amount of the cars for sale...they will not be able to use the Kelly Blue Book, or any other "price guide" as there are too few turnovers on these cars.

yes, I showed them the reciepts...well my mom did, since I'm at summer school right now..and they said that since it wasnt a maintenance fix and it was an add-on, they wont cover it??

I guess i can also see what dealers are selling USED R's for, since they're making out like bandits.

It's an subjective issue. Even with the same company, different agents will look at the situation differently. There is no cut and dry. There are still many grey areas which aren't written in black and white. I think your best bet is trying to negotiate with them and be rational, also be reasonable at the same time. The more the time you invest on them, the more of a chance you will get more from them. Remember, they are an insurance company, not a salvation army. So, don't take anything for granted.

Read your insurance policy carefully. See if there's coverage for excess non manufacturer's equipment. Here in BC, insurance policies include up to $5000 of coverage and any amounts over that can be added on via endorsement.

I have Allstate too, tell them it's bolted in, just like an aftermarket CD_Player. I know for a fact they cover that, and it's replacing something from the factory. Don't let them F*** you over.

if u guys go on autotrader and cars.com you'll see 2 2000's going for 23,995 and 2 of them with a 25,000 asking price.. that should probably help a bunch

I guess i'll have to talk to the agent myself and see what I can do...i mean, it did help me see better at night, that should count for something

insurance covered my old HID kit when I had the US front. However I'm with USAA and they also covered all my CD's which were stolen and sent me all new CD's.

Most places will do it if you show proof that you had them. If they still wont cover it, go over the reps. head and talk to a bigger guy and threaten to close your account if they don't do it.

hmm..when they decide on an offer, say they say

"we'll give u 15,000"

can we just say, "no, we want more, look at what the previous model year with more miles is going for, 24,000"

?

anything that was bolted on as well.
that is the important part. they should cover mods up to a small amount, say $1000 if it is at least attached to the car in some permanent fashion. tell them the ballasts were screwed to the engine bay so they were permanent.
better try and try to get that extry $$$ from the INS. guy, try again and again

Bolted on is covered no matter what. Always covered. Stick to it. No matter what. This is why I want a copy of you policy.

If they offer you $15,000 tell them that it is obvious that they do not know what the car is worth and that you have 3 adds that has the car priced between $24,000 and $25,000...in California they have to give you "fair market value" that is if they cannont find it in the KBB...they tried to low ball me and I informed them that it was impossible to find a car that was for sale for the price that they had quoted to me and I promptly sent them 5 adds I had found that were ~$23-26,000...because of miles we settled for $23,XXX + tax and license(10 month old car with 19,785 miles on it, 2000 itr totaled 1/3/01)
