Default (noob) just trying to get my facts straight before i do anything

ok it seems that all of my charge pipes for my turbo do not fit(off by a little bit) they are made of aluminum(not exactly sure what type) its about 1/8'' thick.

according to my hour of research i will need a relatively light ampage/volt welder(mig) that is wire fed, just wondering if any of you guys can confirm this or have any recomendations for me. thanks to any help and i appologize for the noob question.

yes you can mig weld them, but if your looking at a cheaper welder to do it, it won't. The best way to weld alum is with a tig welder.

tom i thought you told me that you could not tig weld that cheap aluminum pipe i had? anyways the cheap egay charge pipes arent fitting and i think i am just going to cut them and instead of weld use couplers and clamps. i really want to get started on this on monday but i dont know if is going to happen or not.

Yeah, TIG will weld them, but I speak from experience when I say that some of those Ebay aluminum charge pipe kits are JUNK to weld. Regardless though, they can be welded, it can be descent in the end, so that is an option.

The ebay pipes are so thin its a pita to weld them... As for you welding them, probably not going to happen. Welding aluminium with a mig is hard as heck and a cheapo harbour freight wont even get close to doing it.

save your self the hassle and buy clamps and couplers dont try to weld it, its like tryind weld pot metal. If need to have something welded find a local shop who will charge a few $$ and be done with it

the few aluminum pipes i ever got off ebay were EXTREMELY dirty inside. last time i welded on anything aluminum off ebay i spent a ridiculous amount of time scrubbing them in order to get halfway decent results. just seemed never ending, they just did not want to get clean.

if all you have is a mig, couldn't you just spot weld it up and have someone else tig it?
