My buddys EF is haveing a fuel problem. The pump only turns on every so many turns of the key. If you turn it over when the fuel pump turns it fires right up and runs fine. But sometimes the pump will not give a prime pulse when you first turn the key. I am womdering if anyone has herd of this and if so what caused it. My thoughts are the ignition switch.

 

Yeah i'd say ignition switch or main relay.

Very likely it's the main relay. I don't think their is any way to clean the main relay contacts, the way the relay is built. I pulled one apart and rebuilt it, but I wouldn't trust it and I had some tools to use that aren't generally available. They are a bit pricey, but you'd probably be better off to have him purchase a replacement, before you do much of anything else. Odds are probably 10:1 in favor of the relay, over the ignition switch IMO.
