IS MY HEADGASKET BLOWN!?!!?!? **I HAVE NO MONEY FOR NEW MOTOR**
Alright I bought the motor about a year ago from Hmotorsports. They claimed the motor had between 35-45k miles.
Now how can I tell for sure that my gasket is blown?
Pros
1) The oil does'nt look milky.
2) I let the motor run with the radiator cap off and no bubbles were coming up
3) When I drained the coolant there was no signs of oil
Cons
1) My car has been overheating lately (not to where it shuts off but about 3/4 the way) I am in the middle of trying to fix it.
2) There is oil leaking from somewhere (looks like around the oil pan)
3) I have never seen any coolant in my overflow tank?!?!
Now I'm really concerned because I do not have the money to just buy another motor. I'm a poor college kid with no help from parents.
Thanks HT,
Ryan

...Have you checked your thermostat? Doesn't sound like a headgasket to me, then again, you didn't give us enough information to do anything other than point and laugh at your inability to explain a problem.
Does it overheat faster or more slowly if you're driving? Does your fan come on? Does your heat work? If you turn the heat on does the temperature go down?
These are all things we need to know.

is the car stuttering when you accelerate? check to see if there is white smoke coming out of your exhaust. does coolant boil out through the reservoir? if its just an oil leak you don't need a new motor, just get a new gasket to whatever it is that's leaking.
most likley low on oil, your leak is either from the oil pan or rear main seal, might be front main seal depends where on the pan its located, it is most likely NOT blown by the symptoms you have stated, drain your oil and coolant to see if they are mixed, if not your fine just low on oil maybe t-stat is bad

Sorry for not being more specific. I am just really stressed over this.
The car started overheating out of nowhere. It only overheats at a stop still. It overheats pretty quick and sometimes bounces like.
I replaced the thermostat about a week ago. I'm pretty sure I installed it right. I refilled the radiator with coolant and let the car run a bit with the cap off.
I then drove it around for a while and again it started overheating. I pulled over and the fan was'nt coming on. I tried to jumpwire the fan and did'nt do it correctly because I diagnosed it as being bad. But when I went and got a new fan motor,
I pulled the fan out, cut the wires and decided to check the old fan motor once more by directly wiring it to the battery. It kicked on fine so the fan motor ended up being good. I spliced the wires back together and figured that it was'nt the fan motor.
I also have a coolant temp switch that I have'nt put in yet because I'm unsure if that would even do anything. Someone mentioned a fan switch so I thought of replacing that.

My oil leve is actually above the second line.
There is no white smoke.

Sounds like you just solved your own problem. Overheating at idle + no fan coming on = make your fan come on
Get a new fan switch and call it a day.

Yeah I am.
I'm waiting for my gf to get back from an interview so she can take me.
I just don't understand how a fan switch could just out of nowhere go bad. Why was'nt there a CEL?
Also, are you pretty sure my headgasket is'nt blown?

But do I change the coolant temp switch or the fan switch?
I was reading a sticky and it said if the fan is'nt coming on then change the coolant temp switch.

The ECT switch, located in the thermostat housing, is what controls the fan.
The ECT sensor, located in the fitting with the upper radiator hose, tells the ECU how hot the engine is.
The ECT sending unit, located in the side of the block a couple of inches from the ECT sensor, is what controls the temp gauge in the instrument cluster.
So unless I'm mistaken, the ECT switch and fan switch are the same part (the one in the thermostat housing and would be the one you want to replace, as already mentioned)??

ROFLMFAO!! Holy mother of all pwnage, Batman!
You replaced the thermostat before or AFTER this started happening? If your car was fine and then you replaced the thermostat and this started happening then you most likely did not replace it correctly. If that's the case, pull it out and try again.

Replaced the coolant temperature switch and its still not coming on. I let it idle for at least 15min and then took it for a drive, pulled over and checked, the fan still was'nt coming on.
What else could be the problem?
The car is 15 years old do you think that relay might have gone bad?

The switch I replaced was not the one on the thermostat housing it was the one on the side of the block.
Man this is really starting to **** me off. I got pissed and tried to spin the fan which in turn burned the expletive out of my hand!!! I'm an idiot!

I know I've already asked this but I really need someone to tell me that my headgasket is not messed up. I really don't think it is but I'm not sure. I want to be sure.

ha ha what cha expect from a 07...first comeback they ever say is how many more motors they have built...if they built it right the first place they wouldnt of have to build so many more
but ya fix fan
problem solved

You replaced the sensor that doesn't control the fan yet you're still wondering if it could be the HG? And then you ask are the two sensors different...what two sensors? I outlined what each of the three sensors that have anything at all to do with the cooling system does. You replaced the wrong one (assuming it was bad to begin with since you did 0 electrical troubleshooting).

It could have. It could be the wiring too. The only way to know is to test it.

Hey Chris,
The only reason I replaced that coolant switch was because I already had it on hand and it was worth a shot.
I just picked up the fan switch today and will install it tomorrow.
The reason I'm so concerned about the head gasket being blown is because I dont have the money to fork out on another head.
