Ok, so the story kinda goes that the oil line for vtec failed and ended up seizing the intake cam. So when my boss hooked onto it with one of our repo trucks it hit the downpipe and shoved the downpipe upwards. Which i would think it would stress the exhaust manifold studs before the head bolt but no. So i got it home to find that basicaly all the head bolts on the front side of the motor had been stripped. So i tried the helicoil thing and couldnt get past about 50lbs of torque before they ripped out. So i was actualy out at the junkyard today and came across a 91 accord (f22a1) with all the headbolts pulled out and noticed that the thread portion was considerably larger (accord=M12x1.50 Integra= M11x1.50) the lengths are just about comparable. So beside the difference in lengths, is there any reason this wouldnt work. I went today and got the M12x1.5 tap and tapped al the holes and the head bolts feel like the fit really well.

 

You should be fine with them as long as there long enough.

 

Most of the time people will use the time-serts, which are T-shaped and are very strong. Assuming your tapping skills are perfect, I don't see much of an issue. You may want to call ARP to see what they can do about getting 12mm bolts but in b18-spec lengths, then ask about torque requirements. The problem I would see is any unseen damage to the head. If it was enough to strip the threads, then likely there will be a crack developing somewhere in the near future.

I'd suggest getting the head x-rayed, and checked for flatness. I'd also check the block for flatness, since that seemed to get the brunt of it.

 

Well when the intake cam seized it cause the timing belt to break, which lead to bent valves. So the head was just gone through with new valves, resurface and all that good stuff. So i was told by my head guy that the head was in pretty good shape, you know considering the cam journals had to be cleaned up.

 

Just so someone searching later on sees this, the accord head bolts worked for my problem and i had to replace 4 of them and the all torqued to 65ft/lbs as well as the one we had to do on my buddy's turbo'd ls. So result, stripped head bolt on the ls block were fixed with 91 accord head bolt and the ls block retapped to M12x1.50.
