I have no idea how u can detect the transmitter, but LX's did have different options, such as painted mirrors and rear trim, optional 15" mags and a few others

Go to best buy and ask them to look and see if your car has it. Thats probably your best bet.

those kits are aftermarket so im not sure if it will look different and be in a different location. i wouldn't trust one of them with her car anyways.

Your dealer is wrong. If you do a little research, the lx from 2001 - 2004 comes with the keyless entry as an option. Correct me if I am wrong but from what I have found this is true. So to say that none of them had keyless would be wrong. I actually just purchased an 01 lx. The car was purchased without remotes and all we had to do was buy 2 new remotes for 35$ on ebay and an actuator for 30$ from Honda.

Now the easy part is to find if the car is set up with keyless entry. There should be a panel in the dash where the cigarette adapter plug in is. Pull that all out and behind there will be a keyless entry module box. It should have the fcc code on the back and a canada code too. You should match this with the remote that you buy on ebay. If you do not see a little black box behind there then you do not have keyless entry installed. The only bad part about not having it is the fact that Honda discontinued it just recently.... I hope this helps. Any more questions just let me know... thanks.

Keyless comes in lx, hx, gx as an option. You have to purchase a keyless module to add remotes. If you buy the car used then there is a possiblity that one might be installed.

I have Extra remotes if anyone is interested. In good condition $10 shipped with programming instructions.

If anyone has an EX, LX, GX, HX.....I have a Honda security system for sale. Comes used will all documents and installation instructions. Retails for over $169. Make me an offer.

hi just bought my girl the same car (2003 civic LX) and I have almost the exact same question -- remote does not lock/unlock and wondering if the car has keyless entry installed.

Found this web page (http://handaaccessories.com/civelec01.html) that has a link that gives detailed instruction for installation of the keyless unit -- the issue is that Honda discontinued it so you cannot buy it from this site, maybe some after market place. However the instructions do tell you what's involved and perhaps even how to find out if your car has the unit installed. The delsol93guy reply is consistent with what's said in the manual.

if you find a good after market place to buy this unit please share it. Thanks.

Its connected with the little tension clips. Just pull on it and it should slide out without a problem and then to reinstall it just push until the clips are in. If I were you though, I wouldnt do this very often otherwise you will have a greater risk of loosing a clip or having the clips loose their "tension" and your piece will not stay in.

Good luck with it.
