Default Help - Mini Me Timing Belt Question

Almost done my mini me. It's a Y8 head on a sohc ZC (A6). I am under the impression I have to use a Y8 timing belt, but it looks around 2 inches bigger than my original A6 t.belt. Should I use the Y8 one?

I think the one to use is a 92-95 CX or VX VTEC-E D15 one. I used to know which one, but I quit working at Honda a couple years back.

Check the DIY or FAQ links at the top of the main thread page.

Well I just scoured the FAQ and there isn't much, but all the mini me write ups say use the head's timing belt (z6 head = z6 belt). I am going to check the part number tomorrow, but does anyone know if the Y8 timing belt is supposed to be bigger than the A6?

Ok the y8 and z6 timing belts are the same they are the shortest dseries sohc belts the a6 are the biggest ones the vx and cx are in between go to the auto parts store and ask for the 92 civic cx and vx belts and see. they are diff and i think you should use a y8 belt but u will have to max out the tensioner pully all the way to one side not sure which. There are only 4 diff size sohc d belts and one dseries dohc.

I've used a y8 timing belt on 2 different a6/y8 setups. Works just fine.

Use the Y8 belt if you use the Y8 tensioner.

So you're saying since I have an A6 block, and I have not changed the tensioner, then I should use an A6 belt?

No, if you haven't changed your tensioner the D15B7 will be the belt you need.

I'm doing this swap as well and I've been bouncing back and forth on your guy's facts.

I bought both the y8 and b7 belt and I'm guessing both will fit but the b7 will be easier to get on. I also got an adj. cam gear since I read that the y8 is off 4.5 degrees.

Such a pain in the *** this swap is.

That's because a lot of people that havn't done it bounce around info like it's fact.

I have a a6 block, y8 head, a6 tensioner and y8 t-belt on my car. My friend has the exact same thing. 1/2 of Honda-tech says it won't fit though

If I didn't snap a damn waterpump bolt, I'd have this sucker built and I could inform H-T on what belt is easier to fit and use.

I have a y8 head, z6 head gasket, a6 block, a6 waterpump, a6 tensioner, b7 belt, y8 belt, y8 camgear, and a skunk 2 adj. cam gear. Should be an interesting build if I ever get that bolt out.

HAHA I gotta look through my old backups to find it. Will do when I get the chance

I have to drop my damn block off to NAPA so they can try and get a 10mm bolt out of the waterpump area.

Anyone know if I can get away with only 3 bolts in my waterpump ?
