Default Dyno opinions needed, ECU reset before or not?

I'm going to be doing some dyno runs for a company coming out with a new ignition product (all I can talk about for now). Anyway. from my knowledge, the ECU changes the ignition timing based on detonation (as close to it without it happening). To effectively test this product vs OEM, should I reset the ECU before both the baseline and modified runs? Would I risk damage doing dyno runs while the car doesn't know the best ignition timing to run? I plan on driving in there with OEM hooked up, and leaving with whichever works better

well i guess the knock sensor is supposed to adjust the ecu. it just depends on how much and modifications you have. i suggest doing your baseline and not resetting the ecu and then doing your modified runs
