Is it illegal to sell a car with a broken speedometer??????
So here is my situation, I baught a car from someone and the speedometer was broken. Now I want to sell it but the mileage has not changed. will DMV notice and say something. I will let the new buyer know that I has about 30,000 miles more that posted, but do you think It will be a problem with the paper work.
The speedometer broke, nothing illegal about that, there should be a check box that says "this milage is not the actual milage" or somthing like that. When I got my CRX it said it had 18k miles or some ****, one of the previous owners rolled it back obviously but I just went ahead and inspected/registered it with the milage it said and nothing bad happened lol. I'm sure on the carfax it'd show that the milage went randomly back down but who cares? I'd never try to lie and sell it as low milage anyway.
It reads the mileage from when it actually broke, it just has not changed since I have owned it.
I just want to sell it now. I think It should be obvious the mileage is not accurate....considering when the new buyer tests drive it, the mileage won't change.
I have seen on a 'vehicle transfer form' where it say's " is mileage accurate"

All you have to do is check the box that says "actual mileage not shown" On the title when you sell it, and write a note saying what the problem is on the bill of sale.
And then everything is fine.
And then everything is fine.

you can have the mileage excempt. My 91 crx had 210k on it, but the dmv didnt care because the previous owner allowed the mileage to be excempt.
so do that and your peachy. wether the odometer is broken or not, it doesnt matter when the mileage is excempt.
