Default Replacing Suspension soon..

Ok Im going to be replacing parts for my preludes suspension I was looking for a DIY thread on preludes specific coilover/shock install but wasnt able to find an active post. I was thinking id use the one in the suspension thread for replacing shocks but. I know some of you have upgraded suspensions and was curious if you could share a few pointers for me like?

should i replace the strut/mounts or get new bump stops or reuse the ones i have on now? Im really new to this ive only done things witht he powertrain and nothing personally with the suspension components.

thanks

most people just cut their bump stops in half when dropping the car. the removal/install is really staight forward and easy take the old one out put the new ones in. if your just doing springs/coilovers you will need a coild spring compressor which you can rent at any parts store.

if your dropping it with springs, it is HIGHLY recommended to change the shocks at the same time. you dont need anything else like new bumpstops, spring hats, perch's, or anything. the amount of drop will determine whether you need to cut the bumpstops in half, but if your in there you might as well do it anyway instead of taking everything back out again. and go rent a spring compressor from autozone unless you feel like hurting yourself

coilovers, just take the entire shock/spring assembly out, and completely replace it w/ coilovers. easy.

well what i ended up getting were skunk2 coilovers and kyb shocks so do i just slide the shocks into the coilovers? then replace the stock/shock spring assembly with the new > coilover/shock ?

i mean yea visually doenst look very hard.. but maybe im just over complicating it

I am in the same boat as the OP. I bought ground control and Kyb agx. Since they don't come assembled together, I am kinda confused also as to how I should install them.

Any input on this subject will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Well the install was fine. And everything appears to be ok Hamadiscool the onlything i relay to you is theres a bolt on the bottom of the strut/shock assemblies that i would be very careful. According to my friends that do these all the times they said that they are very easy to break. So take it easy on that one and use some nuts off on it or something.

As far as assembling the coilover onto the shock.. the coilovers should come with some rubber o-rings or a rubber sleeve that goes around the shock.. then you slide the coil over case (as its directed top or bottom up by direction) over the shockmaking sure that its Centered. then just put your bumpstops and whatever rubber/metal casings on the suspension kabob. then put the top mount on. tighten the top screw with the one provided by kyb to keep it all together.

I reused all of the stuff from my old shock/spring assembly interms of the top mount n what not.

All is well although it seems a lil bouncy but i think that will go away with a lil time. Fun stuff only took 4 hrs

most coilover kits are normally bouncy so dont be surprised if it doesnt go away
