Default oh decisions, decisions

So here's the low down. I ride a 06 600RR as some of you may know. I've had it for a year. I come from a family that loves riding. Dirt, street, track, all the good stuff. Now my father who rode for a good majority of his life knows the dangers of riding a bike, especially around these parts. He's been down multiple times.
When I brought my bike back home last year, lets just say, my family wasnt happy about it. Not just my immediate family but my aunts, uncle's, and cousins totally hate it. The **** I got for buying a bike didnt get any better after my brother brought his home not even a week later. They blamed me for influencing him(even though its my older brother). My family is really tight knit. The elders are my other parents basically and my cousins are my brothers and sisters. Its just how I was raised.
Every day my mom says that she worries and that I should sell the bike. She doesnt want to burry her child. I know she does this because she loves me and she knows what can happen. She's had those 2-3am phone calls from my father saying that he or one of his friends is in the hospital after going down.
Here in lies my dilema. We recently just purchased a lake house cottage about 10 minutes away from my house now. Private lake, blah blah blah. My uncle shot me this offer which I'm debating on taking. He told me that if I trade in my bike for a jet-ski that he would pay for half of it.
Now I'm not spoiled but this is just stuck in my mind. I mean, I'm almost 21, got a lot of life ahead of me. Maybe this would be the right choice to make. Not just to please my family and take their worry away but to ensure that I won't hurt them if something bad happens while I'm riding.
Recently I have been debating this mentally and really think it's the right choice to just throw in the towel for a few years. I've been looking at Jet-ski's (mainly the Honda turbo 2 seater) and think it would not only be a great idea but also a fun one.
Now my question is, what do you all think? I know that in the end it all lies on me.
If none of this made sense, my bad, I'm kinda tired.

Cliffs: haha no, read it.

heh, a lot of families of riders hate that they ride, my mom hates that i ride.

I gave up riding when I was 21.. i'm turning 24 now and I'm getting my bike back to ride again. I'm glad I took a break because I think I was starting to get a little too out of control for my own good. Looking back on all my younger years of riding, I am TRULY TRULY so happy that I actually survived and didn't die in one of the hundreds of oh-****-im-gonna-die situations. It's only been 3 years but it feels like a life time, and in that life time I've matured a lot, enough to know how dangerous riding was for me at that age and how I will be a different rider now.

You are right, it all lies in you.. so you should do what you want, not what your family wants. Everyone goes down, just matters how it happens. Just don't be selfish enough to do something stupid that would take yourself away from your family. Tell your mom you love her each day Jet Ski's are cool .... but don't even come close to the feeling of riding.

No one understands your prob like me. My parents are both in the medical world dads a Dr. Mom used to be a nurse both worked in ICU and i have heard a million times over the sights they have seen and the bikers they have taken care of yadda yadda yadda they were PISSED when I bought my bike damn they did not like the fact. But this if this makes you happy why end a good thing I know my parents worry everyday I ride off but what can you do i could almost just as easily die in a car wreck I don't see the diff the same result of death is possible in both cases. How often do you plan on using the ski are you gonna really get your money's worth out of it does your parents know you can get hurt on one of those as well. immortal hits it hight do what you want not what your fam wants that might sound bad but as I told my fam you know you won't be able to dictate what i do in like now that I'm an adult i definitley took your concerns under consideration but if you love me and want to see me happy you have to respect my choices that i make whether or not you agree with them B/C whether im 23 or 40 I will have one are you going to try and tell your 40yr old son you can't have one of those. Stick with the bike you won't regret it. That and chicks don't dig jet-skis

In your situation I would probably retire to track only, you don't have to ride bikes to know that street riding is 99999x more dangerous. Bring some of your family to a track day and show them what it's about. If they still don't go for it then I would probably just throw in the towel and find a new hobby, I wouldn't want that many people constantly worried about me.

I've brought my mother and father to track events with my car before. My uncle used to race on his f3 and my other uncle was on a Ducatti pit team. My dad already loves the fact that I turned my RSX into a race car.

haha i wouldnt say that. My dad is jealous sometimes that me and my brother both have bikes. My mom won't let him get one again. He had multiple dirt bikes and street bikes in the late 80's and early 90's but had to sell them because he had us kids . He likes to take mine out when I'm not looking

Did you know that if you hit water going 60 it feels AND acts like concrete.

Everything is dangerous.

I've come to terms with the fact i'll probably die on, around, or being associated with motorcycles. Its the life i've chosen to lead. And yes, it would suck bad if it happens, but i'm here now, i love my family, i love my woman, and i love my motorcycle. I would die for the things i love, and have already come to terms with the fact I might just indeed wind up in that situation one day.

I think i've nearly been creamed my more drunk/inexperienced jetskiers while on the water than i have had dangerous encounters with other cars/riders on the street.I'm not saying this is the same with most people, because it's not but... My shoulder has been dislocated falling from a jetski around 50 mph, and a close friend of mine was knocked unconcious, nearly drowned from his life vest being ripped off, and his leg almost had to be amputated, all after being hit from the side by an intoxicated jetskier. Theres an element of danger with anything gas powered.

The one you bought when you were drunk and kept for a week?

Shiny new thing!

yes it does hurt...especially going that fast, skim a few times...then stop dead.

Pshhh couches are boring (unless you run in the ocean), stand ups are where the fun is.

1. You probably won't enjoy the jet-ski as much as the bike. (I know I don't)
2. Wear your gear, don't ride like a fucktard and the chances of you being killed are actually pretty slim
3. I've never seen anyone wear a helmet on a jet-ski, that being said I know a guy that is permanantly deaf in one ear, and 50% deaf in the other after smacking his head off the water. I know another guy that had his arm amputated after receiving a compound fracture in a jet-ski accident. I know another guy that is permanantly mentally disabled due to a jet-ski/boating accident.

My point being, there will be risks and dangers no matter what you do. I always tell people, you could be sitting on your couch eating a bag of chips and your roof could collapse and crush you. So you might as well live your life, and do the things you want to do.
