Default F22 and F23 Tranny's

My Brother has a 1999 Lude and need's a tranny, Will a F22 or F23 tranny bolt on? I heard of the F22 on turbo ludes but the car is not turboed. So will an F22 or F23 work?

Does he have a SH or base. If he has an SH, no, it will not work and you will need another SH tranny. IF its a base, then it will bolt up, but there isn't much point. The f22 gears are a lot longer than the h22 gears because they are meant for gas mileage, not speed.

No it 's not an sh. He really can't afford an h22 so the only thing we have is an F22. How much performance will he lose?

He won't lose performance, he just won't have any acceleration, but he will be able to go faster top end, I believe.

Isn't acceleration performance?!?!?!
To answer the question, gearing will be considerably longer. I have ridden in an F22 trans'd H22 and it was pathetic. You fall out of VTEC into 2nd and 3rd from what I remember. VTEC hits at about 40mph in 2nd with an H22/H23 trans and with the F22 its closer to 50.
I would tell him to look for an H23 trans if he can't afford an H22 trans......I would personally rather have an H22/23 trans that scratched gears that a Mint perfect F series tranny.
Top speed will be higher, but if you need more than 140-145 youre careless.......
If he just needs something to get by while saving money, and the F trans is FREE or 50-100 then go for it. He will for sure get great gas mileage.....

Wow if that's true then performance lost, at least in acceleration will be significant. Also I doubt your lude could hit 140-145 anyway.

I have an f series Tranny on my Duece Duece and its horrible on the street. But on the highway, It flies. I would be able to redline at 115mph in Third. That **** is crazy. The accel is horrible. You also lose TQ. I now have a M2F4 that i will be rebuilding with a Quaife. Can't wait to see the difference.

Why is that??? I buried the 140 needle at a little over 7000 with the M2F4.....
Actually my new setup is more like 150+++ using RPM/MPH comparison.
