Timing belt 2000 accord v6
I am getting ready to change my timing belt. I would like to know if there are any peculiarities wiith this job. Are there any left threaded fastners I need to know about or timing marks. Also the crankshaft pulley bolt is this a right handed thread and will a 1/2" drive air impact wrench remove it? Are there any special tools that I will need. I am also changing the water pump and tensioner.
I have done a few timing belts on 4cyl Accords but not any V6's.
I know on the 4cyl crank pulley's there is a internal hex build into it so you can insert a special tool to hold it in place while loosening the crank pulley bolt.
The crank pulley bolt should be a standard right-hand thread. It's on there really tight though.
I don't know if that impact wrench will work or not, people say you have to have a pretty strong impact for it to get the job done. I use the special holding tool, 1/2" drive ratchet, 1/2" drive breaker bar and a couple cheater pipes to get that bolt loose, has worked great so far.
I'm sure there are alignment marks that you'll need to line up upon install of the new timing belt but again I'm only familiar with 4cyl alignment marks.
I would get a Helm manual for your car, it'll show you everything in a step-by-step order that is easy to follow. It's a bit pricey but it'll pay for itself just in the savings from the timing belt job. Their website is www.HelmInc.com
