Default How would a B16A with LS tranny drive?

Just wondering. Friend and I have a spare B16A and he wants to put it in his 93 DA Integra. Can't really afford to do anymore in terms of a swap. I tend to believe it won't drive that well but he insists on doing it.

What do you guys think?

It will be slightly slower than B16A with a B16 tranny just because the LS tranny is slightly longer geared. It will be a better DD in my opinion, though.

You could sell your LS tranny and pick up a B16 tranny and put an LS 5th gear in if you plan on DDing it and want better MPG. This is what I plan on doing after I research it more. A couple things I've read say its not too healthy. Anyone else have any input on this? Also, a lot of people tend to over exaggerate the lower torque of the B16 in a DA. But for some reason B16s in Civic SIs are so much better???

With gas prices the way they are I would go for it... it will keep the revs down and save on some gas... you will have a little less torque so it wont take off the line as fast and he will probably fall out of vtec when he shifts at redline. Its not like its a horrible thing to do its just all up to what he wants and if he really cares about going fast or not...

you are aware that rpm DOES NOT affect gas consumption, throttle position does. And to answer the original question it will drive like ****, be slow as all hell and fall out of vtec. I know because we built a customer car and he had a 180whp b16 with an LS tranny in a cx EG and it was still painfully slow.

You are aware that in order to keep the RPM's at a high range that the throttle has to be opened more.

haha have you even seen a fuel chart before? and before you get all butt hurt for what i typed earlier you dont have to have the throttle opened more to reach higher rpm's you just dont shift. i have had a b16 tranny on my b20z now for about 3-4 months and have noticed NO drop in mpg

and aside from all that what about the fact that it will be **** poor slow and would be comparable to a fat chick in a hot wheels

If your so confident in what you say go bring that fuel chart to mercedes and sue them for false advertising because in there new commercial the cleary state they get better gas millage from longer gears...

You will love the gas mileage, but will hate it for drag racing unless you go turbo.

please explain how gas mileage is not affected by RPM. When the piston is on its intake stroke, air and fuel are injected. If the TPS is reading low, and the map is reading high, the fuel injectors will spray very little fuel. But spraying very little fuel a whole **** load of times due to RPM still uses fuel.

Suppose you use a drop of fuel every cycle. If you add cycles, you use more drops of fuel, right?

If you have a higher geared trans, it will save gas.

However you will be BORED OUT OF YOU MIND with a B16 and an LS trans. Part of the fun of the B16 is how low the gears are and how closely they're spaced. I used to have a hatch with a JDM B16, and now i have a GSR ...i FREAKING HATE MY GSR's gearing lol. I would put a B16 trans in my DD 99 gsr any day. My S2000 is geared a lot like the B16...except for more spread out. The 6th gear vs the B16s 5th gear is the same though.

I had a ls tranny on my B17, it sucks unless your boostin. Since you have longer gears, VTEC falls out.
