Piston Rings replacement HELP!!!!!! 92lude
How are you guys doing? I've being checking this forum for a while now and finally decided to join since I need some help....
I have a 92 prelude S...F22A1 SOHC engine. I got it really cheap since it has mechanical problems. Piston #2 (#2 counting from the timing belt location?) it has no compression at all, I didn't know about the part where you pour some oil in the chamber to see if it is a ring or a head problem, I will do it soon.
QUESTION: if the problem is the piston rings, should I take the time replacing all the rings from the other pistons since I'm going to have access to them or should I leave them alone if they are ok?
I would appreciate all the help I can get.... I want to get an H22A in there but I can't spent big money right now. I will be able to do it in a few months so I want to do some minor repairs to this engine 'til I can do the swap or get it ready for turbo.....Thank you very much....

replacing piston rings is not exactly what I would call minor repair. Just wait till you can swap the h22 in. If you do decide to go through with replacing the piston rings, you might as well do them all because it is the same amount of work. Before you go ripping the block apart you should have a leakdown test done
I know is not minor, I meant to say that I wasn't doing a complete overhaul pistons, rods, crankshaft, head job, etc......I hate to see the car seating in front of the house and I want to do this for my own personal achievement kind of deal too. I always wanted to do this on a car. I'm guessing a leakdown test will tell me where the problem is and if it's worth fixing it right? Thank you for your comment...
Not sure if you are doing this to learn or just to get the car running. If you just want to get it running again, what about picking up another F22 longblock to swap in? They are dirt cheap to get, sometimes even free.
I'm doing it mainly to learn...I have a 92 accord that I currently use for dailly driving but I want to use the prelude instead so I want to get it running and learn about engines at the sametime. I don't care if it doen't last long I will be saving for a better engine anyways. What do you guys think about these pistons and rings off ebay. They are really cheap, I think they'll be perfect for my learning experience LOL....If I mess them up I guess I won't care cuz they're cheap.....I appreciate all your comments...
