it does adjust, you need to get a gap tool at autozone and check the gaps on all your sparkplugs.
It's the gap between the plug and the prong that makes an L shape.
They are stored crudely in boxes so sometimes the gap get's messed up. not to mention differen't car manufacturers recommend certain gap lengths.

You do need to gap NGK's for a Honda. They come gapped at around .032, and for most 92-00 Civics + Integras, you need to gap them to .044.
To gap, you just put the skiny edge of the gapping tool and turn until it's gapped to what you want it at (in this case, .044).

the washer is fine its meant to keep it from seizing in there
to adjust gap either hammer the plug down or pry it up becareful the electrodes do break and if your too rough you know what happens to neon srt-4's? since they use the base neone plugs off the lot (some people know what they are doing and get the optional colder plug part #'s) but most dont and the electrodes get too weak and actually expletive up the inside of the combus chamber..........yup so be careful lol

And how exactly would he be sure he had the right gap if he did it with a hammer?

The appropriate tool is $1 at most auto parts stores.

You sir, are a god damn idiot. I doubt whether you are reading a Helms, Chilton or Haynes that the gap measures are that far off. I looked at a Haynes at the Vatozone for quick reference and they listed .039-.043 . Where are you pulling your numbers out of, your ***?

damn i've always thrown them in without gapping them... i always thought that they were pretty much oem plugs so the gap was in spec.... what would be the downside of not gapping them

Your 1.0-1.1 is in MILLIMETERS.
The .044 and .032 everybody else is throwing out there is in INCHES.

It's the standard measure on gapping tools. This is why you label your units. Had you said 1.xx millimeters nobody would be up your ***.
Moving on.
