Default calling all carbon fiber guru's (need help!!!)

I drive a 95 JDM Front GSR. I have a VIS carbon fiber hood and for a long time now it has slowly been forming cracks all through the "gel coat?". Apparently the person that installed the damn hood pins did not use the correct bit to drill the holes and it cause this problem.

I need some advice on how to fix this, and if I can do it for not to much money. I have had people tell me that it could be sanded and re-gelled. But can't find anything about carbon fiber "gel coat" anywhere.

So, if anyone has some helpful advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

pics....

Wow!

Those cracks are deep. I would recommend finding another hood in
better condition. Too much headaches.

Yeah, I was hoping I wouldn't have to get a new hood. It just seems like that might be my only choice. I might go ahead and sand it down and put a layer or two of fiberglass resin on and then just paint it....for now.

Thanks guys for the responses. If anyone else has a suggestion feel free.

I keep meaning to call you. I got you cell number from Ian. I have just been crazy busy and right now money is a big issue. But I will make some time to bring it by. I have to get something done before the meet in July.

you could actually take a tourch and lightly go over all the cracked resin spots heating the resin until it rebonds with the side it crack from. then you would have to sand it down and reclear it. total cost?

-1 quart of clear w/ hardener $35
-prpane tourch from walmart $20
-misc. sand paper $30
- total $85

Thanks guys! I might try and fix it myself if I can't come up with the money to have Automations fix it.

Thanks for the tip electric_rex! Sounds like it just might work....

hey you dont need to resin it if your just going to paint it .Carbon is similar to fiberglass.Just sand the cracks down make sure you feather edge them so it doesnt leave stuff theat looks like dents.Prime it with a good activated primer sand or block seal it and shoot it

if you trying to keep it clear raw carbon, then its no point to fix it because once you open up the gelcoat and put a new layer on, its going to be discolored. But if your going to paint it, you can just use bondo and paint it.

Any kind o filler is going to end up showing cracks again.Much like key scratches they still need to be sanded out.tou can use filler after if it feels wavy though
