welding holes in trunk

Default welding holes in trunk

my friend has an integra that used to have a wing and theres holes in the trunk that need to be welded.. whats the best way to fill in the holes

If it's only one layer of metal in that spot, a mig welder with aluminum backing plate will work ok.
Either way, it will need some body work. You could TIG in a piece also...
Above post gives the best results though.

The kids not trying to make it look all perfect, he just wants em filled in then hes gonna grind em and body filler if needed

tack it with a mig welder, spray paint it from the backside if you can to prevent rust. go to town on it man. it's not really a critical weld.

you can put a brass block under the hole while you are welding, that will keep it from pushing through. just spot it in with a mig, be slow to keep from warping the deck lid, fill it in well, grind it flush, body filler, and spray it

Well, personally I'd cut out the section containing both holes, then replace with a full section of sheet metal using mig tacks all the way around then grind smooth...no filler needed. That's the technically proper way to do it, and the way I've removed decklid holes, keyholes, etc. If you use the section you remove as a pattern, cut the sheet from that, then shape it you can really get a perfectly patched hole that needs no filler at all and is just as good as original. Just don't get impatient and warp the entire panel welding or grinding it down.
