should i get a tune up, or would it be a big waste of money, itd be on my 94 accord lx with 170,000+ miles.. or is there anything ii can do myself to do my own tune up?

 

You could change the air filter & spark plugs, and clean up (or replace) the plug wires, distributor cap & rotor.

If you have to ask, I suppose you don't have a timing light to check/adjust your spark timing?

All that stuff depends on how long & how many miles since each thing was done last.

 

when was the last time it had a tune-up. if you dont know then its probably time for a tune up. its fairly easy to do yourself. go pick up a repair manual such as haynes and go for it. heres a quick list of stuff to replace during a tune-up:

-oil
-oil filter
-transmission fluid
-spark plugs
-dist. cap & rotor
-inspect and replace spark plug wires if there are visible cracks and/or deterioration (OEM honda wires seems to last a pretty long time, so these dont always need replacing, but it wouldnt hurt)
-inspect and replace brakes pads/shoes and rotor/drum if needed
-flush and bleed brake fluid
-flush and refill coolant
-air filter
-cabin filter
-timing belt (should be replaced every 80-100k miles. if in doubt, CHANGE IT!)
