Default LS swap vs. b20 swap which would you want in your ek?

I have been set on a b16 swap for ever, but i'm also been thinkin about a b20 or non vtec b18. Which would you rather swap into a 2000 ek.

Being that it's a coupe(heavy r) I would go with the b20. But if you decide to go boost the ls FTW, also remember that the b20 has weak internals (sleeves, pistons, rods,ex) with out a proper rebuild it will blow if you keep revving it to 8k.

Yeah i really want vtec b16 but they just dont have the tq i'm lookin for, i might have to go with the b20 and just replace alot of internals. Or i'll spend the extrea money and just go with the b16 and do some upgrades not sure i want to go all motor though.

Revving to 8200 for over 55k miles on my stock bottomend B20. Drag, road track, daily... you name it... it's seen it.

What the original thread starter needs to do is decide two things:

- How much money do I want to spend
- How fast do I want to go
- What do I want to do w/ the car

To answer his original question of his heart set on b16a then maybe a B20 or B18b... I would go B20 for cost reasons.

Wow you are one lucky mo' fo, not all of us have that kind of luck. But the thread starter needs to set his goal and really think on what he wants to do whit his ride.

H22 FTW!!!!! but seriously you'll be happiest with a b20Z from the '98+ crv's 146hp/133tq vs. the ls's 142hp/127tq then later do the H22 via H2b FTW!!!!!

EdIt: don't use anything longer than a hydro b16 transmission....

If the LS and the B20 were both in the same condition, I would go with the B20.

I must be lucky then too. I have had a crvtec in my car with stock internals for 4 years. 1 year it was naturally aspirated the other 3 have been turbocharged. I hate seeing people post that the b20 is a weak motor. The only reason people came up with that excuse is because they are weak tuners. My motor has over 80k miles on it and I have been reving to 8200. To the first poster good luck with what you decide on doing.

b20 vtec and lsvtec swaps are just an overrated trendy thing. your going to end up spending more money to get the engine running, money that you could have just put into a stock b16 or b18c1 to get more power.your going to have enough headaches just doing a b16 or gsr swap, lsvtec or b20 vtec swaps will give you even more headaches. not to mention that no matter what you do its not going to be as reliable

to give a bit of clarification.... I don't race anymore (use to do Solo2) so I don't really care about a monster engine (ok... i'm lying... of course i do ) but anyway... this is my daily driver to get to work and has to be functional...

so... i some how ended up spinning a bearing on the y8 (damn oiling issues)... body is in good condition and i'm in no position to get another car so... swap it is...

I've always wanted to do a swap but never got the chance (or was forced into it)... I know other guys in the local car club who have done b20 swaps and LOOOOOVED them! I didn't want to go back to the y8 and risk an oiling issue again so... I went for the B20!

I drive in rush hour most of the time... stop... and go... stop... and go... repeat. V-what? I barely ever got up to vtec... was it nice when I did? you bet!! but I almost never use it (on and sometimes off ramps excluded)...

so after thinking about this for a bit (i had the option of a b16a2 for not much more) I went with the B20 anyway...

I have to say it is pretty sweeeeet!! The torque is amazing and it pulls HARD with little delay.. and at pretty much any rpm!

In race conditions for Solo2 (don't know about drag) I have seen (with a good driver) eg's w/ b20's EAT Z06s... stock B20Z with h/e ... definitely underrated...

anyway... for relatively 'cheap' and easy, drop in and go fun... B20 gets my vote!

btw- if you find a b20 w/ low rise IM (not necessarily a knock sensor) it 'should' be from an orthia.... 9.2 compression

the ls and the b20 both use ls heads... so for shorter money you can have a bigger block to work with.. more torque is always nice.
