Its the ****! I highly recommend it. Even if you aren't planning on tuning I still recommend everyone thinking about modifying their cars to take this course first. Its one of the best investments I've made. Before anyone decides to go buy an AEM CAI, some DC headers, and an Exhaust, they should take this course first just to get a general idea of engine mechanics.
sounds good.. I graduated from UTI recently so I have a good understanding of engine theory and mechanics, but we never got into tuning. Not even in the hot rod/bolt on performance classes. Anyone else care to comment?
I took the beginner class back in January and I just got back from the advanced class last weekend.
I was a little dissappointed in the advanced class for the money I paid, however the beginner class was definatly a good investment and I'd reccomend it to anyone whether or not they were going tune themselves. Alot of general engine theory was discussed regarding the how's and why's of tuning.

no, to get certified you have to log an additional 20 hours of actual tuning time in at least 4 different dyno sessions on 4 different cars. then you qualify to take the test, and if you pass that, THEN you are certified.
All we really got into in the advanced class was modifying the fuel map to change air/fuel ratios and also finding optimum ignition timing in the map. Basically took an ok basemap and went in and said here, change the afr in this spot. I guess I was expecting to more of a full tune sorta deal from scratch. Other than that is was just a little hands on of what we talked about in the first class.
I think I would have learned more giving that money to a good proffesional tuner, watching over their shoulder all day while they were tuning my car. But like I said the beginner class was pretty valuble for me so I guess it all evens out. ANd if I decide to get certified I'm already half way there.

oh yeah one more thing, I keep hearing people saying they are factory trained in AEM EMS. Is this offered through AEM or is this strictly for employees or what?
