Default couple bike related stories from today

today at school someone asked me the fastest i've ever gone on my bike, and the honest answer is 85-ish... being that it's a 26 year old 400cc twin, i have no real reason to push it any harder. but some guy piped up and was all like "psh, my ninja does that in FIRST GEAR!"

naturally i said "i highly doubt that" but he insisted, so whatever. people these days, what can ya do.

and then on the way home, i saw an SV sitting in a driveway and as I rode past I noticed a for sale sign in the windscreen, so of course I had to turn around and look at it, even though I couldn't even begin to afford a new bike right now. It was a 2003 SV1000S with 2000 miles on it, guy wanted $6k. Does that sound right? Seemed a little steep to me...

It's not really school per se, it's a 9 week pre-apprentice training program, a formality really... I'm starting a carpentry apprenticeship, and I already know most of what it takes, but I had to take this thing anyway cuz it's part of the process.

p.s. the SV did look in pretty mint shape though, had D&D mufflers on it, I didn't notice any other mods off the bat, I only stopped for a minute or so

Good on you for not going for the Kawi-bait. I hate questions about "how fast" I've gone. I usually go with 25mph.

You can have fun with that... the more rediculous the answer, the better. I put a 1000 motor in my CBR and it does 200 flat out!

well the dude is like 45 years old, short, plump, and bald with a street broom for a moustache, he doesn't even really strike me as the ninja type... and based on his insistence that it will in fact go 85 in 1st, not even really like a motorcycle guy (and definitely doesn't know much about physics)... will the zx-14 even do 85 in 1st gear?

I was just like "Well clearly this isn't a ninja"... heck the speedo only goes up to 110, and based on the rev's it's at for just cruising speed, it MIGHT be able to do it, but it'd be damn near blowing the engine in 5th (there is no 6th).

Unlike most guys my age, I didn't buy a motorcycle to see how fast I could go. But apparently this fellow is a slightly-past-middle-aged SQUID.

an R1 is geared to go 90 in first. That's the only bike I've seen a gear speed listed. Obviously I haven't looked hard enough (or at all) for what bikes do in first gear.
Me not squid. Though, I did rip down a street at 30+ mph on our freshly rebuilt R6 with gym shorts, t-shirt and nikes. The bike came with a D&D pipe (yuck), and the neighbors got pissed how loud it was. *stomp stomp* This street is not turning into a drag strip. Next time I hear it I'm calling the sheriff, nyah nyah.

Ok, you can obviously use capitalization, punctuation and your brain... So for the love of God please change your screen name so we at least begin to take you seriously...

Hahahahaha sorry... it's actually an allusion to BMX, being that the tires are 20 inches. My smartass attempt at wit.
