Default Theft Rate

I'm considering buying a new car because I'm tired of waking up to my alarm going off. I woke up this morning to my alarm, ran outside and saw that they poped my hood and tried to pry my windows to unlock the car. BTW I currently drive an Integra.

So my question is... do you guys think the theft rate for the regular civic sedan and si sedan will ever be as high as the integra?

I was really considering the SI sedan but just realized that it has a k20 in it. And we all know those are the new motor that theives are going after.

So what's everyone's input on this matter?

Well its the same engine as the coupe so if they are after the engine they will go for either, the newer cars are a little more difficult to steal but if they want it, they will get it, just get a decent alarm and a pistol, lol

I thought the motors were different between the DX, LX, EX v.s. SI?

Pager alarm and pistol is your friend.

By the time the police arrives, they will be long gone.

The newer Civic's are a lot harder to steal(compared to 94-01 tegs & 92-00 civics) but if somebody wants it bad enough they'll find a way to take it.

I live in the Bay too. Garage, alarm, and the "unbreakable" autolock (clutch lock) are your best friends. I've had a bad experience w/ my old car as you can see in my signature. Now I park it in my garage when I'm home. I also don't have to worry about a thing when I'm at work, because only employees w/ valid badges are allowed to step foot in our facility (including the parking lot). The only time I worry about my car is when I go to downtown SJ. Then I use my autolock. Like others have mentioned... if they want it bad enough, they will tow it away or find some other ways to take it.

Don't let fear dictate what car you buy. You'll have insurance, if you want the SI, don't get the R18 because you'll be worried about it.

I would park it in the garage but I live in an apartment and closest thing to a garage I have is a carport.

Agreed just buy good insurance. You can easily replace a new Si.

the newer si's are much harder to steal than the older civics and tegs. the immobilizer, chip in the key itself and other safety features make it much easier for u to feel better about it. plus if u really wanted to, u can get lowjack. the thing u will have to worry about it someone stealing ur tires or just ******* it up TRYING to steal it.

the ONE person whos car was stolen, did they previously mention they were having problems keeping up with their car payments? i have known some people who get their cars "stolen" and the motor and what not ends up in their friends garage. these cars seem to be pretty safe all the way around. good luck either way

I park mine in my garage next to the 911. I sleep with a loaded gun suffice it to say. I work in a crap area too but a guy who works next to me has a BMW with 22's, they would steal them first i'd think.

Where in the Bay Area do you live man? I live in Cupertino, Santa Clara Area and never have any trouble around here. In fact, my neighbor leaves his BMW and MDX unlocked almost every night.

The last time somebody had a car stolen/broken into around here, was in 1976. Guy had his VW bug stolen off the driveway. They caught the kids (bunch of high school punks) but the car was trashed.

I know there are still a few bad areas around down town San Jose and Milpitas, but I know the Police have been cracking down on the gangs in those areas.

Don't know much about the outlining areas (Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, SF, ect).

Just wondering.

The only SI I heard of being stolen was the Tein SI, and it was stolen right out of their trailer.

The factory alarm system in the SI is pretty good. The ignition kill feature at least makes stealing the car much tougher. The factory alarm keeps your doors covered and you can't open the hood or the trunk without opening the door. I had an aftermarket system installed as well (Python 950), mainly to protect my car from being jacked up, and to let me know of someone hits it.
