Setting timing on H22A with Advance Timing Light
I have an aftermarket flywheel and I was only able to put a white mark on it for TDC (No. 1 Piston at TDC). So I got an advancing timing light that reads 0 to 60 Degrees and I need to confirm if I am doing this correctly ...
1. Make sure car is at proper idle and temperature.]
2. Jump Service Connector
3. Set advance timing light to 15 degrees (Since H22A stock timing is 15 BTDC???)
4. Point light at flywheel and line up arrow/notch on block with my TDC mark I made on the flywheel.
That's it - is my procedure correct? Also, how come these timing lights are called "Advance" timing lights but I am using it to set my timing to 15 BTDC when I set the light to 15 Degrees?? Kinda confused by that...

sounds right to me..
"advance" just means that the timing is firing in 'advance' of TDC; which is BTDC. since tdc is the 0 mark the timing gun can be calibrated from 0 to 60deg advanced aka 0 to 60deg BTDC aka 0deg advance to 60deg advance. get it?
on a side note - I use the TDC marks on the cam gears to set my timing. It's much easier on my setup.
