RPM fluctuating
Ok bare with me on this issue, we have troubleshooted for a while. My friend has a B16A1 in a 92 Civic EX. The civic has a stock exhaust and before we took the engine out it ran perfect with the B16A1. We placed a clutch in, placed the throttle body back on, put the ECU back in. The engine starts up and since it has a light-weight flywheel it seems to like to rev high (around 3,000 on startup). So the problem we are having is that the RPM's go from 3000 to 1500 back and fourth for ever. When you drive in first it jerks like your a beginner driver and then smooth's out around 2nd and 3rd. When you stop it does the 3,000 to 1,500 RPM fluctuating.
What we have done is checked the plugs (just in case), replaced the O2 sensor with three different kinds and still did not fix it. We even took out the O2 sensor and it still fluctuates. Has anyone fixed this problem? I know this is a known issue with honda's.
Thanks!

Check your to see if you've got any CELs you can do that by reading the sticky at the top of this forum.
I would bet you're throwing a code for your MAP, IACV, or TPS or all of them.
If it's the iacv you can clean it by taking it off and using brake cleaner, the MAP? can be adjusted with a multimeter.
But first once again check for a CEL.

I have the exact same problem....except mine is a d16z6 in a 95 ex.. i changed motors and now it idles up and down, (until it's warm) and first and second lurch you to death in low rpm's. I have been told o2 sensor and TPS...let me know how your troubleshooting is goin and I'll keep you posted as well.
This is my friends car and he took the throttle body off so that his friend could test another car's B16 that did not have a throttle body (dumb I know). So I guess the first step I will do is check the hoses for the IACV, then check the seal for throttle body, then adjust the TPS if required after so that it idles smoother. I appreciate your help il keep you guys updated.

clean your FIT valve.........take it apart and clean it not just spray it. FTW!
Also, clean your IACV.
Make sure the TPS is in the right position with a voltmeter as well.
Check for any vacuum leaks too.
Good luck

We cleaned the TB and checked hoses with carb cleaner. We went to adjust the TPS and guess what...we lost the hex screw, we are going to tackle it again today. The TPS measured .49 I believe that honda recommends .45, should this make a huge difference on a H22A1?
thanks
thanks
Well we have gained on this issue. Really weird though, we adjusted the TP to .35 and noticed the RPM's idled at like 4,000. We adjusted back to .49 and the RPM's idled at 2,000RPM and stopped bouncing up and down between 3,000 and 1,000RPM. We noticed the bottom screw was missing. No matter what we adjust the voltage to now it still stays at 2,000RPM at idle, what should we do to lower down to 1500 range? We tried the throttle cable.

I had this EXACT issue on my z6...turned out to be the FITV on the bottom of the TB. I took it off, comp[ressed the plunger thing in it back down, reinstalled it, and ever since it's idled beautifully at startup around 1K
try these links for potential help too.....they helped my idle problem.

try this, take off your intake and in the tb there should be two holes. cover up the bottom hole (fitv) with your thumb, the idle should go down if it does go down to where it sounds good then just put a block off plate.
does your fitv have a plug connected to it?? cuz if not the valve could have stayed open and thats part of your problem... the fitv works with a magnet if there is nothing connected to it then im pretty sure that could be your problem
