Default G3 Rotor/Dist. Cap installation issues!

I have completed the step by step instructions on the Dist. Cap/Rotor install. I also installed new spark plugs and wires.

You guessed it...put it all together and the motor wont start.

When we took the cap off...we noticed that we couldnt get to the screw that holds the rotor on. So...we cranked the engine a few times so that the rotor moved and the screw was visible. We removed the rotor..and replaced with the new one.

I am guessing that something with the new rotor placement may be to blame?

How can we put the rotor back on...in the same position that it was in the beginning...if we wont be able to see the screw in order to do this.

We also put everything together..and tried cranking the engine to move the rotor...then placing the cap back on and starting up again to no success. We repeated this process about 10 times till we tried with the rotor in all different random positions.

Is it possible that the ignition coil has been jacked up in all this process?

The rotor "should" only go on one way. The screw hole, once lined up, should make it in perfect time. It won't matter where the new rotor is in relation to the old one (as far as turning the engine over) because with the cap back on, it will hit the points just right when it needs to. If it's not firing up, something more could be wrong.

First off, do you have the old rotor still? The old cap? Try different combos of them using old and new parts, to diagnose what part is causing the issue. If the car was running when you started, then you should be able to put the old stuff back on, and the car should run again the same.

I've seen some caps and rotors have "junk" on the contact surfaces that needs to be cleaned off prior to use. Some sandpaper to on these surfaces for a brief second should be enough to make sure that they are indeed making metal to metal contact. As I said, try the old stuff again, and just try to eliminate the part that is causing the issue.

we diagnosed everything individually....and we even used sandpaper as you said on the new rotor. We tried using all the old equipment as well.

Did you put the wires back in the same firing order? If its making contact then it should start up. Try putting some black grease on the contact of the rotor and crank it over to see if any of the grease is on any other parts, and make sure everythign is nice and tight before you come back for more help. You arent going to mess up a coil by doing a tuneup (at least I dont think you can ). Update us.

if the rotor is getting contact...then what do i look for? I'm going to try the grease test...but we used all the old equipment as well so I highly doubt the rotor is the problem.

i'm willing to bet that you mixed up the wires when you put it back together..
they will fire in the wrong order if you did so... causing the engine to either
not run, or not run correctly

I put them back on in this order....

I also made note of where the old wires were when I was removing them for the first time. The wires are surely in the correct spots.

that looks about right with the order you put wires back on.

You are getting fuel right? Just cause you replaced the ohter electrical parts in engine bay, doesnt mean it cant be fuel, so make sure you are getting fuel.

You should hear fuel pump buzzing for bout 3 seconds under back seats when you have key in on position.
You can also check the main relay as well. Idk, just a few things to look at because i had similar problem with my 94 teggy ls about a month ago except i was replacing parts when it happened. IT just died haha. But runs perfect now.

My problem was that my ignition coil was out of specifications since there are 2 leads. Primary coil was within specifications, but the secondary wasnt (secondary coil deals with ignition&and starting vehicle). Good luck with everything.
