cops will be cops, you can do NOTHING about it, cali laws says you cannot modify ANYTHING.
even though the cop pulled you over for no reason, he has the right
sucks bro i know.

reminds me of this one time when a cop pulled me over for no reason....i swear he stopped me to ask me where i had my car painted
i was surprised.
oh and you cant fight it man, you had things that were illegal under your hood.....how can you fight that?

Well make sure exhaust/header are carb legal and make sure your motor is obd1 along with the motor with no jumper cables and make sure your ecu is obd1 with cat on with all sensors plugged in and no CEL code and maybe ref can let you get away with it if you make appointment for BAR'd
I belive cops can pull you over for nothing... all they have to do is say they pulled you over because of suspicion.
I remeber when I got pulled over. THe CHP tried to tell me that I had illegal parts... I was only dropped... what a sucker, 100% bone stock under the hood.
Court dismissed it... but yeah a hassle and waste of time.

You didn't exactly co-operate with him too well by being a smart ***. Talk to them and treat them with respect and they will be much more nice to you during the process. And he could arrest you if he wanted to, of course you would have been let go on some form of bail, but he still could have had you arrested.
Start being a little more respectful to law and I'm sure they will be a bit more respectful to you. You can start by not calling them "pigs."
PS: I'm in the process of becoming one.

Same here.
OP, your attitude needs an adjustment. If you are breaking the law, why should you be so surprised that you get called out on it? Do you not realize California has the strictest vehicle laws around?
Also, it's so funny to me how so many people, after getting pulled over, are so quick to shift all the blame to the police officer, like it's their fault. Real indicator of someone's maturity and intelligence by how they react to these situations. And in this case, the facts are quite clear- there's no way around the fact there were illegal car parts. Yet no no no, the cop is a [insert witty insult here.] Right.

Indeed. I plan on being fair but at the same time a lot of you don't understand a police officers mentality. A lot of officers have goals they want to achieve. Probably 90% of the officers out there have aspirations of getting into undercover or PI units that investigate narcotics or gangs.
While you "car enthusiasts" are angry that you are getting pulled over when you are allegedly doing nothing wrong except driving your pseudo race cars, this officer is looking for a big drug bust or gang connection that could help him out for his next interview for said narcotic or gang unit.
While to this OP he was just driving home merrily after a long day at work, the police officer doesn't know that. All he knows is you are driving around in a beefed up domestic car in the middle of the night. To any officer, that is suspicious.
From talking to other officers street racing is a concern they have, but no where near as big as narcotics and gangs are. If you gladly co-operate with them and explain where you were coming from and what you were doing, and not rattling off smart aleck remarks and instead help them with what they want to know, they will respect you much more and thus treat you on a higher level of respect.
Just talk to the officers, the worst people and the most suspicious people that get pulled over are the ones who sit there like a statue afraid to say anything. Tell them what you were doing and where you are going. If they ask you about your car, tell them. They are going to find out whether you tell them, or they pencil you in for a meeting with a state referee, or worst case pencil you in for a hood pop off at a local junk yard.
(Most) Officers don't pull you over with the intent of ticketing you for every nook and cranny, they pull you over to find out what is going on and if everything checks out OK they will send you on your merry way. I've always been lucky because I don't street race, and I try to keep a decail or two on my car that clearly show I'm not into street racing. Unfortunately a large majority of people on this forum are into street racing and can't say the same.
All in all, make their job easier for them and they will make your life a lot easier. If everyone on here is so innocent on here as they say and have nothing to hide and don't feel modding an engine is illegal, then show the officer.

i dont know specific laws in cali being from oregon but since you gave him consent. agreeing to let him look under your hood your pretty much sol. you pretty much have to be super respectful while still refusing search if they proceed to pull you out or arrest you or search your vehicle anything found is unusable in court its the same with drugs weapons ect. but when you give him your consent you droped all rights and any chance of a decent fight in court. you may still be able to get it reduced because he had no reason stated when he pulled you over but its highly doubtful.
and is it really illegal to mod anything in cali?
if so how come theres such a scene down there?
good luck by the way sorry that happend cops suck

Why stop there? Cops enforce the law, so how about, laws suck. Laws suck, any rules or regulations suck, anyone anywhere should be able to do anything they please whenever they want, no question. Yes, our society wouldn't unravel into a mess of chaos at all.

You better hope the next car you're pulling over is not strapped or knows where you live.
