Default Poorman's R with GSR Head?

I am planning on turning my GSR into a poorman's R but plan on keeping the GSR Head. I want to use jdm itr pistons, R cams, Ferrea valvetrain, and skunk 2 manifold. so basically besides the difference in the head it will be a type r. my question is will i be able to safely run a type R ecu with this setup since the head is slightly different or will it not matter. also what are the differences in the r cams. are all us R cams the same and are they the same a jdm ones. i heard that jdm 00-01 are different. not sure which ones i want to run yet. thanks.

you can run that ecu no problem i would suggest getting something tunable though.... your compression will be higher than that of a typer engine due to the smaller chambers of the gsr head. the 00 or newer r cams are all the same.

thanks for the reply. and also are does it matter if its us or jdm for the 00-01 cams. so are you saying us 00 r cams are different from 97 us r cams?

"Poorman's R" = B16 head + b18c1 block

The only difference between the ITR cams are that the 00-01 have 3 more degree of duration on the intake side.

your better off supaing that gsr up then doing a poor mans R..even then with a poor mans R you lose compression because of the b16 head....and ya..glhf with that.

that just defeats the purpose of it being a poorman's R if you just have a gsr block with a gsr head.

you can simply just sell the Gsr head and pickup a b16 head and build those internals up. its cheaper and will make that motor a Poorman's Type R. just my .02

i understand that a poormans r is with a b16 head but thats not what i was asking. i just wanted to know if a type r ecu would be ok to use with this setup since i will be using a gsr head. and i dont see the purpose in selling my gsr head to make an iconvenience to myself and end up losing compression? there is no gain in getting a b16 head.

b16b's and b18cr's have the same heads.
