Default Bleed Cooling System

Installed new radiator yesterday on my 99 Civic and tried to bleed cooling system.
Tried method in store bought service manual, either I misunderstood part of it or it's wrong. It says to remove thermostat housing, turn heater switch on, turn thermostat 1/2 turn to let breather pin come out, pour in coolant until steady stream comes out around pin. Didn't work. Is there a another way?
I appreciate you time and patience.

Got it. Took a fresh look, and of course prayed about it. Just followed same directions from above posting. No problems after two hour test drive.

in my experience if you don't see a bleed valve on a honda the just put a funnel on the rad filler neck and fill it with coolant, run it till its hot and give the upper hose a squeze between reving the motor a bit.

some accords have bleeder screws on the thermo housing and some civics have it on the upper hose fitting at the head. but most will work the air out normally the way the honda engineers desgined them

you mean the engine won't stay running..? that would have nothing to do with the coolant needing purging. you can run it with no coolant in it if you want to burn it up but it'll still run.

check all your wires around the thermo housing where you've been working. there is a ground strap there on some motors and you can have some screwy problems if it's left loose.

just fill it almost all teh way up - and run it w/ the cap off while squeezing the upper rad hose, the air will come out the filler cap hole easy.
