Default RUST, my mortal enemy.

Next week my ITR will be in the body shop for some rust fixing/repainting. The spot in question is around the rear fender wheel well. Anybody else have rust there? Mine was caused by a hit and run while I was at a movie. The bumper got pushed in and the screw that attaches the bumper to the fender got pulled and rust formed where the paint fell off.

I imagine this is a common rust problem area...so is the alternator bracket (I have yet to see one that's not rust colored). Does wax inhibit rust? If not, what does besides paint.

the rear fender wheel well is notorious for causing rust. the fender liner is perfect for collecting water and retaining it there, thus causing it to rust out. my car is a 94 and when i work on the underbody and such, there is a noticable amount of rust residing in my suspension and such. RUST SUCKS!!!

I believe the fender liner helps to prevent rust. It protects the fender from getting rock chips which lead to rust. I know some people prefer to remove them for the reasons you stated, but mine are staying on unless someone can prove that they are more harmful then good.

I found that removing the fender guards, spraying some WD40 or rust check in the opening of the fender guards and putting them back on the car. The spray will expel any moisture in the area.

I usually do this every couple of months, takes 5 minutes

you can of course get the JDM aluminium alternator bracket, and blow dry your car after its baths.
