What's the easiest way to find out what kind of engine you have in Honda Civic (D16Y7, D16Y8, D16Y5, etc)?

 

look at the stamp on the block

 

Where is the stamp located? Which side?

 

its towards the passenger side. what kind of civic do you have?

 

Look in the block,it will be stamped there.

 

I have a 99 Civic EX

the stamp says it's a D16Y7 engine..which are better D16Y7 or D16Y8?

you sure its an ex?

 

Someone blew an engine or swapped the badges before you got it

 

that sucks

 

The manual says Civic ex but the car is a 4door sedan so I'm guessing it's not an ex. It would be LX then. RIght?

lx came with a d16y7 in 96-00 I believe.

The ex is better, but both are slow/gutless.

ex has shorter gear ratios, y7 has a differen't head and intake manifold, both of which flow better. the y8 is a higher compression and has vtec.

y8 130 bhp
y7 ~105 bhp

 

The y7 manifold is also a bitch and a half to work with, trust me, i used to have one, it was awful.

A $50 auto y8 manifold is a nice little upgrade.

I did it, noticeable difference.
