Early Xmas Present: 1975 CB750
Signed up to take the msf course next month. Been looking around for a second hander 500cc or less. Beat up and cheap in case I dropped it. Get something bigger and better after getting my feet wet.
My brother in Texas just called me to tell me that a friend of his is moving to New York and is going to be in Jersey tomorrow. He is going to drop off my brother's 1975 CB750. Bike is completely rebuilt with many performance mods. My brother says it's a real monster. He's had it for ten years and has spent many dozen hours and hundreds of dollars on it. He wants me to have it as a gift for getting my license. Plus he's riding a HD deuce now and doesn't have time for this one.
Is this going to be too much bike right out of the gate? Should I still get a smaller bike to learn on and break this out next year? Like I said, the bike is in mint condition with many performance mods. I don't want to f it up. Or worse kill myself on it.
How powerful a bike is this?

They didn't make much power stock (like 60 some hp). Unless it's crazily modified I don't know how much trouble it can get you in (I honestly don't know the capabilities of that motor)
I'd be more concerned about the weight. At about 520lb wet, it's going to be a little difficult learning on such a large bike.
I would try to find a 250cc, since they have great resale. Learn on that and sell it a few months later for what you paid for it
