I hate dealerships
Sorry, but I thought I'd vent a tad bit here. So I went to my local Honda dealership, Jay Honda, just to see what type of offer they would give me as a trade in for my 2004 Honda Civic Si EP3 towards a new si. Just to let you guys know, my EP has the oh so rare European Domestic Market OEM HID headlights, a HFP rear spoiler, a JDM CTR front bumper/lip, and Mugen Pedals. THe stereo consists of full Clarion components: 400 dollar HU and Clarion 2-ways all around. S2K antenna also. Before the sales lady came back to me with a figure, I noticed a 2004 silver EP3 was at their used car lot, I checked the price, and it was going for 16,995, stock to hell, with ugly pinstriping and 19,950 miles. My car has only 7,100 miles. So I get back, and the sales lady says, "right now we're at about 11,500." I told her about the 04 they had sitting on their lot with almost 3x's the miles going for 16,995, she acted confused, and so I politely excused myself. Wow, sorry, but car sales people **** me off. Okay, bash if you want, or say whatever you feel, I just thought I'd share my experience concerning checking dealer appraisal values for my EP3. Flame away, or even share your own experiences, everyone is welcome haha
This is to be expected when trying to trade your car in at a dealership. They are gonna go by KBB value, and could care less what you have done to your car. When my dad sold his EP3, we got $8,800 private party. It was a '02 with 44,xxx miles. Sold this back in 2006. Bone stock. Minor cosmetic damage. Was rolling on the same tires since purchase... blah blah.
That EP3 is probably gonna sit on that lot for a while with that price tag. When you get a new SI which is 100 times better than the EP3 for 5 grand more.
Sell it private party. You will get a better audience

Yeah, you will always get hosed trading in any car anywhere. They always need to make their money. 2 things though, the will never sell that Si for that much so they do that for negotiating room, and second your mods do NOTHING to help value in their eyes. Only in ours that are into cars. Sometimes mods even hurt the value at a dealer.

Yea, I've sort of come to realize that, but darn, I mean I didnt even have an exhaust or any engine work done, all bone stock there! I'm almost thinking that taking those headlights and selling them would give me more money in the bank if I'm still gonna get the same offers for the car.....

yeah you're a lot better doing a private sale, trust me I work at a dealership...the aftermarket parts usually get taken off and put back to stock before they sell as certified pre-owned. Techs usually get dibs on the aftermarket goodies...or at least thats what happens where I work.

It's what happens everywhere. To the OP just pull the aftermarket goodies, you will get the same in trade and just sell the parts to make extra money.

yeah never trade it in, i traded in my NBP 03' rsx (base) last summer for a NBP 06' type s. On my 03' i had the oem lip kit and wing and fogs with 23,000 miles on it and they only gave me 13,000 for it. I noticed it sold before it made it to the lots and i asked to sales guy what it went for and he wouldnt tell me. So, later on I run into the guy who bought my car and i asked him what he payed and he payed 19,000 for it. bastards made 6k off my ****

*NADA value, it's lower than KBB.
Sell the aftermarket parts. Then sell the car stock. I've always done it when selling cars and saved a lot of money. What color is your Si? I'm interested in your CTR lip.

Yeah funny thing is I work in the service department....I walked into the sales department to look for some keys for a used car and they were having a meeting....and all I heard was, "C'mon...you have to milk as much money out of them as possible..."I walked out into the showroom and felt really bad for the customers looking around. I guess thats just how the world works.

Ok since we are on dealerships here is my story and take on dealerships.
I love going to dealerships cuz i know how they work. My friend works at a dealership, my uncle is a manager at a dealership so i know how much they get cars for and then jacking up the price. I laugh every time i go and they come out with the famous "If i go any lower i'll be cutting myself short". LOL i went to a dealership one time at this little rinky dink dealership. Man this guy tried to bend my roommate over and stick it straight to him with no ky and no courtesy reach around. My roomy was going to buy an older CRV and the guy wanted 12k for it with 80 or 90k miles on it and wanted to give him a loan with 18% interest. I looked at the guy and told him he can go sell that POS to some average joe schmoe who would actually buy into that ****. So we went to another dealership and my roomy saw a mustang GT they just pulled up. Well they wanted 15 or 16k for it and they wanted between 14-16% interest. I told them he'll buy it for 12k with a lower interest. well then they go back into their room and do their "talking" and came back out and said "We can't do that we'll be cutting ourselves short" i told him well that's fine then either take it 12k with lower interest or we can go to another dealership and get another mustang gt with a better price. dude said "hold on let me talk to my manager again" came back out and the guy said how bout 13k, 1k down and 15% interest... i said "Nope, how bout the 12k like i said and a lower interst?" and again with the famous reply "If we go any lower we'll be definately cutting ourselves short" i told them well if you want to sell the car.. you know how to reach us. Keep in mind this took over hours for negotiation. Well next day dealership called my roomy back and he called me and said they'll go 12k with 500 down and 8% interest.. at first i told him no and just stick to what i said before but then i told him go ahead then since we got them down that much. My roomy's credit is shitty and i got him down to 8% interest, ya can't beat that. Keep in mind the dealership still made a nice profit off of the car because i gaurantee they bought the car for between 4-6k MAYBE less. They don't know i know how much they get their cars for but i love going to a dealership and playing dumbass. Oh yeah that GT had 50k miles on it and it was an 02 i believe. My roommate has a fully built b16a2 and now about to fully build him a B18C, but he doesn't know dick about V8's and neither do i. He got the GT just to have something different. He now got rid of the GT and is going to try and get an s2k this weekend, as long as i'm there lol.
Here is a rule of thumb for anyone buying a car, roughly take off about 2-4k off of what they are asking and that is price you can more likely negotiate with and NEVER give into what the dealership offers you.. but also remember to look at the mileages.
