taking engine out
about to start taking my 1.5 engine out of my 95 coupe. do i drop it out from the bottom or crane it out from top. should i take inlet manifold off before i take it. any other pointers will be appreciated thanks
yeah i have done all mostly top, but if u dont have a crane go from the bottom, fromt he botom take off the exhaust manifold . If you put in from the bottom do the same and take off a/c and p/s pump makes it easier. TOP is alot easier in my opinion
Have at least two people. Make sure it's chanined securely if you pull it out from the top and do it very slowly, the 2nd person (you or a buddy) needs to walk around and unplug/disconnect anything you forgot and help guide the motor out.
make sure you get the bitch pin out... (shift linkage pin underneath the boot) and yes have at least 2 if not 3 people there... 3 swaps i've done we pulled from the top and 1 we dropped out the bottom... the top was definately easier
there should be an unused threaded hole on the back of the block where you can screw in a strong bolt through a chain link and that will hold the right side of the block
as for the intake manifold you shouldn't have to take that off.
just move all the odd and end crap out of the way
main thing is make sure you got that 2nd or even 3rd guy to help unplug all the stuff you missed
that's my .02

i actually find it much easier to remove from the bottom:
just set it on a low set of rollers by dropping the car on its belly, and then raise the chassis up with a tall jack
roll it out and away

Ive done both top removal and bottom removal. Id say both are easy. But taking it out from the bottom takes a few more steps but less help. For instance, remove mounts, axles, linkage and just simply lower the engine down. then you need to lift the car above the engine to remove it. From the top, its good to have friends there to help finegle the engine to avoid things. From the top tho, ive installed a b-series in an eg in under 90 minutes by myself.
Out takes longer, because of all of the fluids, and removal of things, etc.

i have it out. got it out at two o clock last night. i had a car lift so i dropped it out it wasnt too bad. i had someone putting the lift up while i was checkin for stuff not unplugged. using the lift was very handy especially for bitch pin and exhaust. thanks a lot every1
