Need some help...advise ASAP. Intake cam seized.
So the other night at about 1:30am i was on the freeway cruising at about 75mph when the engine just died. I coasted about 1 mile and got off the freeway and popped the hood to find out that the oil line for the ls.vtec had somehow burst and i lost all the oil pressure for the head, which caused the intake cam to bind and seize and snap the timing belt. While i was waiting for a tow i tore into it and found that it didnt look that bad, but im no expert. So im sure it bent some valves. Ive got a full set of skunk2 titanium valves. My question is....the head is repairable, right? Heres the pic. this is all im worried about. it doesnt look too bad to me. I think i can just polish the cam journal and put the valves in and be ok. What do you guys think?
This is the only bad spot on the head.
This is the only bad spot on the head.
Its difficult to tell how deep its scored from hte pictures, but if it requires much material removal at all you need to replace the head since there is no way to correct the excessive clearance
it doesnt look that bad from the pics. I would just smooth it out a little and make sure you put alot of lube on it before cranking it up. I've seen worse then that and the car ran fine.
