Default Adjusting valve clearance

So my car is making a tack-a-tack-a-tack-a-tacka noise and it's driving me nuts, it might also be the cause of my bad fuel mileage and shitty pick-up. I've been reading my chiltons on the procedure and it seems to be so so on the difficulty. I guess the fear of ******* up my valve train is the culprit for making me think this.

Anyway, anyone out there have a nice write-up to adjusting the valves? I know I need feeler gauges, how difficult is this process?

Honda is charging me $130... :X

You could start with something easy like making sure the timing belt didn't jump a tooth. You will have the valve cover off anyway.

It's actually rather simple. Allow yourself plenty of time and don't rush it. Double or triple check your readings and follow the book.

I was afraid of it until I did it, and then I wondered to myself "why the hell did that scare me?"

From what I've read, will cause unbalanced air in there if the exhaust valves arent opening enough, not enough air if the intake valves are not opening enough, etc, etc... You can also warp your valves if they are going in too deep in the cylinder and not closing well. Your engine will work poorly.
