Default helmet help

i went around to 4 local stores today to try and find a helmet, any freakin brain bucket that fit.
i tired on s Shoei Rf-1000 at the only store that had large. He siad it was too big becuase he could get a finger between the helemt and my temple area. (going in through the open face sheild )
Is this true?
All the helemts, soumy, Arai, shoei, Shark, did this. the only one that didn't was the Icon Domain decay, and he suggested i go with the Icon.
I really wanted to get a good helmet, and would rather get a Shoei or Arai. the Arai fit me the best, other than the finger between the temple and the helmet.
Is the guy correct? or ?

Honestly dont know on that but would like to know for myself.

It just seems like to me that one part on sizing a helmet to your head wouldnt matter because people wear open face, half face, and skull helmets.

I mean who knows????

thats what i was thinking as well. but only one store really had any good selection ot try on, so i only have one sales guys opinon.

I did the pull test, do up the chin strap and pull forward from the back to see if you can pop the helemt off and i could not. I thought that was good enough but he said no soooo i dunno

not to discredit the guy or anything, but dont let someone else tell YOU what fits YOU the best.

the helmet should fit snug without being uncomfortable.

thats just what i think. good luck finding a helmet

Try rotating the helmet. Not like Exorcist rotation, but check the rotation up and down, as well as side to side. If the helmet fits well, it will feel like it is pushing your face towards up/down/left/right. Wear it in the store for at least 15 minutes to get an idea of possible pressure points.

I can get part of my finger in between the head and the helmet too, but it fits fine. You want to feel the hemet pushing your skin around. I wouldn't worry about brand names, get a helmet that fits snuggly. They all have to meet the same spec. Shoei and Arai are lighter and have better venting, but truth be told, you won't notice after you get used to it and that venting will also bring plenty of air noise.

I notice. I went from a Shoei rf-1000 to a suomy spec1r and the suomy vents on to the front of the face much better. Before either of those i had a KBC TK-9 and it didn't breathe for ***** and would fog up constantly. Different helmets have their benefits. Frankly i think the shoei rf-1000 is one of the nicer middle-priced helmets. I still have mine because it's comfortable.

I don't know about the finger check near the temple, that seems like it would differ between helmet designs and their use of padding. First, i measure my head from about an inch above the eye brows to the largest part of the back of my head. Take that circumfrance and use it as a reference point to pick a size. I have a 58.5mm haed which means on a Shoei i'm at the top of a medium. But my medium fits fine.
On the suomy their large fits me best, but still causes pressure on my forehead and after an hour it starts to hurt.
The test marmaladeboy is what i've always been taught. Put the helmet on, and try to rotate it in every direction. It shouldn't slip around your head much at all, and your cheeks should be pretty well pressed in to your face. Wear it for a while to feel if there's any pressure points.
